IFC Mall Yeouido snack spot, tender sundae lungs: Hyeonseonine

A place I end up going back to whenever I'm craving tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). I've eaten Hyeonseonine pretty often at the Ilsan Western Dom branch.

So this time I went to Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch. It was nice to find the same familiar taste I grew up eating, and this time the sundae's lungs and liver were especially delicious and memorable. The set lets you eat tteokbokki, sundae, fritters and mini gimbap all at once, so it made a pretty filling meal to share between two people. Here's my review of the Hyeonseoni Set!

An easy bunsik meal to find inside IFC Mall

Since it's inside IFC Mall, it was easy to stop by while shopping or after a movie.

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch sits in the underground passage that connects the subway to both The Hyundai and IFC Mall. Lots of families visit IFC Mall, and if you're craving tteokbokki with your kid, Hyeonseonine seems like a solid option.

The menu isn't complicated either — familiar bunsik items from tteokbokki to sundae, fritters and gimbap — so it's easy to share even with people who have different tastes. We visited as two and ordered one Hyeonseoni Set.

What comes in the 23,000 won Hyeonseoni Set for two?

🍴 The Hyeonseoni Set was plenty even for two people. We ordered the Hyeonseoni Set for ₩23,000 plus a Zero Pepsi. The set comes with tteokbokki, sundae (Korean blood sausage), fritters and mini gimbap. There was more food than we expected, and sampling a bit of everything left us thoroughly full.

We started with the tteokbokki. As someone who used to eat at the Western Dom branch often, this was exactly the familiar flavor — sweet up front with a spicy kick following behind, the kind of taste that keeps you reaching for more. The rice cakes soaked up the sauce well enough to be tasty on their own, but

honestly, my favorite combo was still dipping the fritters into the tteokbokki sauce. The crispy fritters picked up the sweet-spicy sauce, so the outside stayed crunchy while the deep tteokbokki flavor soaked into the middle — every bite was better than the last.

🥢 Hyeonseonine's sundae: soft lungs and nutty liver

I like sundae in general, but I especially, especially love the lungs and liver!

Hyeonseonine's lungs were really tender — no chewiness or dryness, just soft with each bite, and it went great with the sundae. The liver wasn't dry either; it had a savory flavor, so anyone who normally likes liver would probably be pretty satisfied.

The fritters were also great alongside the tteokbokki. Dipping the crisply fried fritters lightly into the tteokbokki sauce gave you crunch plus sweet-spicy plus savory all at once — proof that bunsik really is better eaten with a mix of dishes. Haha.

Add in the mini gimbap eaten one piece at a time, and with tteokbokki, sundae, fritters and gimbap all coming around in turns, the table felt surprisingly full for a simple bunsik meal.

The gimbap was nice dipped lightly in the tteokbokki sauce, or just popped in whole as a between-dish bite. We started out just wanting tteokbokki and ended up eating our way through sundae, fritters and gimbap too — a proper meal. Good call ordering one set for two.

Final verdict: an Ilsan regular tries the IFC Mall branch

I usually go to the Ilsan Western Dom branch, so I was curious how another location would compare. Having tried it, I can confirm: it lives up to its reputation.

The biggest plus is being able to grab tteokbokki easily inside IFC Mall when you're looking for a spot in Yeouido. It's a convenient stop when you get hungry while shopping at IFC Mall, or when you're out with a kid and tteokbokki sounds good. If you're craving bunsik around The Hyundai or IFC Mall, I'd recommend Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch. And if you want a hearty meal for two, one Hyeonseoni Set is plenty filling. :)
