Paju Unjeong Korean BBQ worth a Saturday wait: free naengmyeon, Tannae

In short

Tannae Paju Main Branch is a briquette-grilled Korean BBQ restaurant in a roadside shopping strip in Garam-maeul, Paju. On a Saturday evening visit with the writer's sons, Tannae was full at 8pm, so they waited. The selected pork belly (16,500 won for 180g) is pre-grilled at the entrance, finished over a tabletop briquette fire and dipped in meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) and other sauces. With free naengmyeon (cold noodles) from the receipt review event and pork skin sent out by the owner, Tannae Paju Main Branch is a solid pick for a company dinner or family meal in Unjeong.

Tonight I visited Tannae Paju Main Branch, a briquette-grilled BBQ restaurant in Paju's Garam-maeul that's become word-of-mouth famous for its cozy charcoal smell and generous portions.

My sons love meat, so we've been to plenty of BBQ places near Unjeong, but Tannae stands out — it's grilled over actual briquette coals.

Where is Tannae Paju Main Branch and what is it like inside?

Store name: Tannae Paju Main Branch, located near the Garam-maeul commercial strip in Paju. It's also close to Unjeong Lake Park, so it's a nice stop after a walk.

Just from the outside, it looks exactly like a briquette BBQ place should — my expectations were sky-high. Banners for new menu items and events catch your eye right away. I liked that the full glass windows keep the space feeling open, not cramped.

Tannae menu and prices

I checked out the menu posted at the tables and around the restaurant. The meat and side dish lineup is really solid.

It's a briquette BBQ specialist where you can enjoy free naengmyeon or ramyeon. We did the receipt review and got naengmyeon (cold noodles) as our free item — I honestly thought it was a naengmyeon specialist place, it was that good 👍

Briquette grilling, meljeot and dipping sauces

After ordering, a hot briquette fire arrived and meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) went onto the grill plate. So when's the meat coming?

The pre-grilling happens right at the store entrance. I understood right away why it's called 'Tannae' (charcoal smell) — the smoky aroma as the meat cooked over the briquettes was seriously appetite-stirring.

Since it's pre-grilled at the entrance, you can grill it at your table so easily — a real briquette BBQ gem.

While the pre-grilling was going on, the side dishes came out.

There's a self-serve corner for refills. This place's standout feature is the variety of sauces on offer. The wasabi shiitake mushrooms are also a nice bite.

The pork belly, already partially cooked, gets grilled again over the briquette fire right at the table.

The corn salad and other side dishes pair perfectly with the pork belly. Cabbage, green onion kimchi, pickled onions — a real banchan gem of a place.

How does Tannae's briquette-grilled pork belly taste?

Is this the perk of briquette grilling? Crispy outside, juicy inside. Dipping the thick pork belly slices in the various sauces, with that briquette aroma running through it, it just went down so smoothly. It never got greasy since we wrapped it in lettuce and ate it with the sides — I enjoyed every last piece.

The sizzling sound alone is delicious.

Meljeot and green onion kimchi are essential with pork belly~ And the doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) is a must — it even has crab in it.

It's located across from Bethel Church's Paju Unjeong sanctuary, on the Garam-maeul roadside strip — a BBQ place I've passed by often, and today I'm glad I finally stopped in.

Saturday at 8pm: waiting for a table at Tannae

Since it was Saturday, I called at 8pm and every table was full. It's the kind of BBQ place worth waiting in line for.

Looking at these photos makes me hungry. Tonight was supposed to be a diet day... oops.

The naengmyeon came out as our review event freebie. It's no less than a dedicated naengmyeon restaurant.

Free pork skin from the owner

The kind owner offered us some pork skin to try, on the house. Both the owner and staff were friendly with quick service, keeping the whole place lively. I'm so glad we tried the pork skin — it was genuinely delicious.

So chewy — the best pork skin I've had so far.

After waiting to get in, the place gradually quieted down past 9:30pm. But by 10pm, groups started trickling in again, one after another. Popular places have a reason for it.

Is Tannae good for a company dinner or family meal in Unjeong?

Thick, quality fresh meat, the nostalgic smell of briquette fire, and savory meljeot — the three elements were all in perfect balance here. The restaurant is clean and spacious enough to make it a great choice for a company dinner in Unjeong or a weekend family outing in Garam-maeul. If you're out for a walk near Unjeong Lake Park and start craving good pork belly, give it a try!
