Hapjeong bakery café for sharing 4 chimney breads: Chimney Mansion

In short

Chimney Mansion is a large chimney bread bakery café on Jandari-ro in Mapo, Seoul, near Hapjeong Station Exit 3. The writer and a friend picked four chimney breads to share (Chimney Salt, Baby Pasta, Mr. Pepperoni and Potato Man) and explored the Eastern European village-style first floor and the resort-themed second floor. Chimney Mansion is a Hongdae bakery where the well-sized, reasonably priced chimney breads make it easy to try several flavors.

What kind of café is Chimney Mansion?

Chimney Mansion is a big bakery café specializing in chimney bread (kürtőskalács, a spiral pastry baked over a rotating spit), near Exit 3 of Hapjeong Station. I heard there was a great bakery café near Hapjeong Station Exit 3, a big café that's a good stop for things to do in Hongdae, so I went. And it wasn't just a café visit: I found a Hongdae bakery that feels like a little village in Eastern Europe!!

How to get to Chimney Mansion from Hapjeong Station

Come out of Hapjeong Station Exit 3, walk past Burger King, and head straight up the alley on the right. Forget those predictable dessert cafés,,~ I visited Chimney Mansion, a chimney bread hotspot among the things to do in Hongdae, and the sign is made so you really can't walk past it. They use an entire building, so even on a crowded weekend you can visit without feeling squeezed.

Chimney Mansion hours and parking

Chimney Mansion is open from 11 am to 8 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 9 pm on weekends. For parking, the nearby Samyun private parking lot is the closest and easiest!

Also, if you open Naver Place before your visit and turn on notifications, they give you a ₩2,000 coupon. It's a small perk, but the chimney bread is so cheap that it basically pays for one.

What are the first and second floors like?

The first floor is a wood-toned space with long tables, and the second floor is decorated with a warm resort concept. The first thing that catches your eye downstairs is the long table, a cozy setup for a group to sit huddled together. With the wood feel, it seemed like soft European background music might start playing at any moment.

Climb the stairs and the second floor is styled in a completely different mood. It has a comfortable concept, like arriving at a warm vacation spot, and there are so many photo spots worthy of Instagram that it's a perfect Hongdae café for anyone who loves taking pictures. The chairs even looked comfortable.

Chimney bread varieties and how to order

Chimney Mansion's chimney bread is a dessert in a size that's good for takeout, for gifts, or for a quick bite with coffee. A chimney bread hotspot!!

The look of it made me understand why it has appeared so often on TV programs like Tasty Guys (Matinneun Nyeoseokdeul) and Today N (Oneul N). There are so many kinds of chimney bread, and it seemed like a different lineup comes out each time. It must be so popular that when I went, there were plenty of varieties, but several flavors were all sold out.

Like at a bakery café, you take your own bread and pay at the counter. The breads looked so wonderfully varied that I couldn't take my eyes off them.

How are the chimney bread prices?

The chimney bread here is a decent size and on the cheaper side, so I could order several flavors guilt-free and share them with my friend. These days a single dessert often costs ₩10,000 or more, but Chimney Mansion lets you pick a variety of flavors at reasonable prices, so, nice!!

Chimney Salt, Baby Pasta, Mr. Pepperoni and Potato Man compared

At Chimney Mansion, I picked up four: Chimney Salt, Baby Pasta, Mr. Pepperoni and Potato Man.

Chimney Salt

First bite of Chimney Salt!! It has a twist of charm: crispy outside, chewy inside, with a plain yet lightly salty flavor, and I could see why this is such a famous chimney bread place.

Baby Pasta

Baby Pasta is a huge hit if you love chocolate, and the combo of white chocolate and pistachio, what can I even say ㅜㅠㅜ The nutty richness blends with the sweetness.

Mr. Pepperoni

And after something sweet you start craving something salty, right? That's when Mr. Pepperoni is perfect! It had a rich, pizza-like flavor with a peppery kick on top that kept me reaching for more.

Potato Man

Potato Man pairs smooth potato salad with bacon chips, so it was really filling too.

Is Chimney Mansion worth going back to?

This Hapjeong café isn't just a big café with lots of space; the bread is so good that it's a bewitching bakery you'd keep visiting. If it were near my home, I'd want to buy one every single day on my way home from work! They also sell gift packaging boxes, so it's great for giving chimney bread as a present too.
