What is Daecheon Beach like?

Daecheon Beach is a famous beach known all across the country. I'd guess quite a few of you reading this have been there, so how was it? Even if you haven't, you've probably heard of it on TV or in the papers. On top of that, it hosts the Boryeong Mud Festival, a well-known festival with a long tradition and history, so even more people visit this popular tourist spot in Korea.

I grew up in the Busan and Gyeongnam area, so Boryeong and Daecheon Beach were far away and I almost never had a reason to go. The most I'd done was stop in Boryeong on the way back from a solo trip to Taean, Chungnam in 2024, partly to film for YouTube. But thanks to my girlfriend, who now lives in Chungcheong, I've already been to Daecheon Beach twice for dates and drives. Every time, I love the wide open sea, and I like the feeling of enjoying the place together with the crowds who come.

A Daecheon Beach date: parasol up, gazing at the sea

In the short two to three months from summer until now, we've been to Daecheon Beach twice. Each time we set up a parasol, sit in camp chairs pressed close together, and spend a while staring blankly at the sea and healing. What's so good every time is the sunlight sparkling on the water, which is truly beautiful. The sound of the waves and the wind is healing itself.

And when I see little kids playing in the sand, I feel like my worldly, worn-out self is being cleansed again. Plus, the prettiest girlfriend I love most in the world is right next to me, so I don't need anything more.

Where to get a light breakfast or lunch on the way to Daecheon Beach

In front of Daecheon Beach there are mostly grilled-clam restaurants and raw-fish restaurants, which is heavy if you just want something simple. So this time we went to Green Brownie Boryeong City Hall Branch as our Boryeong café brunch. On the way to Daecheon Beach, meals can be awkward, and I didn't know anywhere in downtown Boryeong. Looking for a light place near Daecheon Beach for sandwiches, coffee or salad, we ended up choosing Green Brownie Boryeong City Hall Branch.
