Yangjae takeout pie shop, 4 thin-crust nut pies: Hodu Kkakki Brothers
In short
Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제) is a takeout-only handmade walnut pie shop in an alley near Exits 3 and 4 of Yangjae Station in Seoul. On a weekend lunchtime the writer picked up the Mix 1 set, with 2 each of the signature walnut pie, original pecan pie, hazelnut cacao pie and macadamia cheese pie, and all four had thin crusts and weren't overly sweet. For a less-sweet nut dessert or a gift for older family members in Yangjae, Hodu Kkakki Brothers is a solid pick.

How long is the takeout wait at Hodu Kkakki Brothers?
When I visited at weekend lunchtime, the takeout wait was about 3-4 minutes. There were quite a few takeout customers, but packing didn't take long, so I didn't wait much, haha.
The inside isn't big, and it's takeout only. Looking at the pies on display made me want to try one of each, lol.

I ordered the Mix 1 set. It has four kinds of pie, 2 pieces each, and when I opened the package they were neatly arranged by type.

The selling point of the walnut pies is that they're handmade and baked daily without refined sugar, using ingredients close to nature for a healthy sweetness, or so they say.

- Domestic wildflower / acacia honey

The packaging looks premium and the ingredients are healthy, so 🍀 it seems like a good place to buy gifts for parents or elders. (My mom liked them, lol.)

How did the 4 pies at Hodu Kkakki Brothers taste?
Signature walnut pie
First, the signature walnut pie! The crust is really thin! It's packed with walnuts, so you taste nutty walnut rather than flour.

Original pecan pie
The original pecan pie was right up my alley, since I love pecans 😊 The nutty pecan flavor is rich, and the thin crust makes the pecans taste even better.

Hazelnut cacao pie
The hazelnut cacao pie is basically a chocolate pie! It isn't overly sweet like typical store desserts; it felt like eating high-cacao chocolate, which I personally loved.

Macadamia cheese pie
Last, the macadamia cheese pie. Cheesecake plus macadamia, which is a can't-go-wrong combo, lol. Nutty yet sweet, and it went especially well with coffee.
Why I recommend Hodu Kkakki Brothers as a Yangjae dessert
"Not too sweet sweetness" is exactly how I'd describe Hodu Kkakki Brothers' pies. The sweetness isn't overwhelming, which I think made them even more enjoyable 😊
If you're looking for a Yangjae dessert spot, a Yangjae walnut pie shop, a dessert gift or something healthier, I recommend Hodu Kkakki Brothers, which is also close if you're coming from the Dogok-dong side 😊
