Main photo from a visit to 1953 Hyungje Dwaeji Gukbap Gwangalli

I was looking for a hearty meal in Gwangalli and ended up back at 1953 Hyungje Dwaeji Gukbap Gwangalli (1953형제돼지국밥 광안리점) for the third time! Pork gukbap is the thing you have to eat when you visit Busan, right ??!

This time I ordered the set for two and tried creamy pork gukbap, clear pork gukbap, a tasting plate of boiled pork (suyuk), and sundae (Korean blood sausage). If you're hunting for the best pork gukbap in Busan, a meal in Gwangalli, or Korean gukbap near Gwangalli, I'd recommend this place, so let me go through it in detail.

The restaurant was clean and bright overall. Rather than the old, worn feel of a traditional gukbap place, the interior is modern and comfortable, so first-timers can eat here without any hesitation.

There are tables for solo diners as well as seats for family meals and get-togethers with friends, and the staff were friendly, so it was a relaxed meal ٩(๑ˆOˆ๑)۶ It's a 2-minute walk from Geumnyeonsan Station and close to Gwangalli Beach, which makes it a really great location when you're traveling !!!!

What I ordered was the set for two at ₩29,000 (creamy gukbap, clear gukbap, tasting boiled pork, tasting sundae) ૮₍˶•🐽•˶₎ა There are plenty of other set menus too, and since it's summer they also sell mulmyeon (cold wheat noodles), plus pork ramen, kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), udon and more !!

You can also order the gukbap in the combination you want: meat only, meat + offal, meat + sundae and so on. Love that !!

The restaurant provides free pot rice and bibimbap ingredients, so the meal felt even more generous. It's not just the gukbap that's good; you can feel the care for guests in the little details. Personally, the stir-fried fish cake, seasoned bean sprouts and radish salad were seriously so good !!!!!!!

On top of that, they give you a free glass of makgeolli (Korean rice wine) on weekdays, so don't forget to have it !!!!!! I tried it on my last visit: icy, slushy and cold, and it was a killer combo with the gukbap. This time I'm on medication so I couldn't drink it, which was such a shame ( ɵ̥̥ ˑ̫ ɵ̥̥) but I can just go again and drink it next time !!!!!

Creamy vs. clear pork gukbap: what's the difference?

Creamy and clear gukbap at 1953 Hyungje Dwaeji Gukbap

Besides the creamy gukbap, 1953 Hyungje also has an unusual clear pork gukbap !!!!! When you think of pork gukbap you usually picture that milky look, right ???? The clear one has less fat and fewer calories, so I think it would be fine even when you're on a diet ?????

Full table for two with pork gukbap, pot rice and side dishes

Look at this spread !!!!!!! Where else is there a pork gukbap place that gives you pot rice too ...... Not only the gukbap but all the side dishes are so good, and then the rice is good too ....

Before you really dig in, what do we have to do ???? Scoop some rice out of the pot and pour hot water in, of course !!!!! Eaten after the meal as a kind of dessert, that nutty scorched-rice tea is so tasty haha

Creamy pork gukbap: rich bone broth and plenty of meat

Creamy pork gukbap with generous meat

The rich bone broth of the creamy pork gukbap was really impressive. The broth was deep and thick but not greasy, and the pork was boiled tender, clean and mild with no gamey smell !!

Putting rice in it made for a really filling meal, and I could fully feel the charm of authentic gukbap in Busan. There was also a lot of meat in it; by my standards, really a lot !!!

Clear pork gukbap: the clean broth that stood out most

Clear pork gukbap with clean broth

Personally, the clear pork gukbap was the most impressive dish at 1953 Hyungje. The broth was much cleaner and more refreshing than regular pork gukbap, easy to eat, and I think even people who don't like oily broth could enjoy it !!

They say the broth is made slowly and carefully from a 70-year-old recipe, and maybe that's why it tasted clean yet had a deep savory richness. I think it would also be perfect as hangover food the morning after drinking ꉂꉂ(ᵔᗜᵔ*)

The tasting boiled pork in the set for two was moist and tender. The ratio of fat to lean meat was just right, so it was clean and mild, and eating it with the gukbap was even more satisfying !!

The sundae was chewy with no gamey smell, and dipped in the salted shrimp or the seasoning sauce that came with it, I kept reaching for more. I really liked that the set for two lets you enjoy several dishes at once ꒰。 › ·̮ ‹ 。꒱
