Yonsei burger restaurant dinner, grilled onion swap tip: Bas Burger
In short
Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch is a handmade burger restaurant on B1 of Yonsei Cancer Hospital, next to Yonsei University's main gate in Seodaemun, Seoul. Over dinner with a friend who practically lives in the lab while preparing to graduate, the blogger shared a wasabi mayo shrimp burger set (₩14,800), a basic Bas Burger combo (₩10,600) and mozzarella chicken bites (₩7,200). The buttery bun and patty were good, but the mild seasoning and sharp raw onion meant switching to grilled onion next time. At Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch, the unlimited potato chip self-bar and the mozzarella chicken bites with pepper mayo are must-haves.

I had a reason to stop by Sinchon for the first time in a while, so I gently summoned my friend Malangko, who is swamped preparing to graduate. She basically lives in her lab these days, so to save her the walk we picked Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch, close to the lab, for a quick dinner, haha.
Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch is right next to Yonsei's main gate, so it's easy to reach, and it's a clean, pleasant place for a handmade burger 👀 I've packed in an honest review, ordering tips, discount info and recommended combos.

Where is Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch?
Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch is in the B1 restaurant area of the Sinchon Severance Yonsei Cancer Hospital building. Come out of Sinchon Station Exit 1 and walk straight toward Yonsei University, and you'll see the hospital right beside the main gate.
Go into the B1 restaurant area and you'll find it quickly near the escalator! The route is indoors inside the hospital building, so it's great for getting there comfortably when it's rainy, cold or just bad weather.

By the way, Yonsei students and staff get a 10% discount, so bring your student or employee ID and it's good value!!
Seating and how to order at Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch

The seating is roomy and the interior is clean, and you order at the kiosk by the entrance. Walk in and you're greeted by wide seating and tidy decor, with lots of college students eating solo, researchers and hospital visitors.

I liked that even the big communal tables let you eat comfortably without feeling self-conscious.

Ordering is easy at the kiosk by the entrance, just so you know!
Are the self-bar potato chips free at Bas Burger?
The "James potato chips" at the self-bar of Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch are unlimited and free when you dine in, and cost an extra ₩2,500 for takeout. On the way to our seats, the self-bar, Bas Burger's signature, caught my eye.

While waiting for the burgers, it was dangerously easy to keep grabbing James potato chips one by one! For takeout it's +₩2,500!!

Next to it, individually packaged ketchup, mayonnaise and even pepper are neatly stocked.

I loved that everything is hygienically packaged. I hear a dipping sauce of pepper, mayo and ketchup mixed 1:1:1 is delicious with freshly fried crispy chips, so everyone should definitely make one!!
What did we order at Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch?
The two of us ordered a wasabi mayo shrimp burger set (₩14,800), a basic Bas Burger (single) combo (₩10,600), and 2 pieces of mozzarella chicken bites (₩7,200) as a side. Order done.

When you order a Bas Burger set, besides the default fries you can switch to onion rings or coleslaw, and the drinks range widely from sparkling water to shakes and craft beer, so mixing to your taste is fun.
The combos and sets are generous too, a filling meal, and I was happy with both the value and the portion!
Is the Bas Burger taste salty or mild?
The burgers at Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch pair a buttery bun with a good patty, but the seasoning is on the mild side rather than salty. The combination of a butter-rich handmade-burger bun and a carefully grilled patty was appealing.

Overall, though, the seasoning is less salty and fairly mild, so if you want an authentic American taste you might be a little disappointed..

Since it's in a hospital basement restaurant area, I guess they kept the seasoning slightly light.

Swap raw onion for grilled onion
When ordering a Bas Burger, I recommend changing the onion option to "grilled onion." Here's a tip to remember!! The default raw onion is sharper than I expected and slightly masks the flavor of the patty, so next visit I vowed to switch the onion to grilled onion every time.

With sweet grilled onion I think it would balance much better with the butter bun and patty, haha.
How do you eat the mozzarella chicken bites?
The trick for Bas Burger's mozzarella chicken bites is dipping them in pepper mayo: self-bar mayonnaise with pepper added. The side we added is crispy chicken outside and packed with whole mozzarella cheese inside, so the savory flavor bursts out the moment you bite.
One more tip! Rather than eating the bites plain, shake pepper into mayonnaise from the self-bar and dip them in it. That's the trick.

The savory mozzarella and crispy chicken, plus the sharp, rich savoriness of pepper mayo, make the umami explode, and it becomes a side that pairs superbly with craft beer or a fizzy drink.
Overall verdict on Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch
Near my busy friend's lab and right next to Yonsei's main gate, Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch is a place I could recommend for a pleasant, tasty handmade-burger meal.

You get a 10% discount for Yonsei students and staff, an unlimited potato chip self-bar with special sauces, and even mozzarella chicken bites with pepper mayo. Solid all around!

If you're near Sinchon Station, Yonsei University or Sinchon Severance looking for a filling, easy-on-the-stomach handmade burger for a solo meal, definitely change the onion option and try the mozzarella chicken bites with pepper mayo.
