Bulgogi restaurant near Incheon court: lunch date for 2, Dongchuwon

In short

Dongchuwon Bulgogi (동추원불고기) is a Korean restaurant in Hagik-dong, Michuhol, Incheon, near the Incheon court and prosecutors' office, serving Seoul-style bulgogi cooked in a shallow broth. On a lunch date, the writer ordered the signature old-style bulgogi for 2 with an ongsimi (potato dumpling) add-on, ate it both grilled and shabu-style in the broth, and enjoyed generous vegetables and side dishes, a full-size dessert naengmyeon (cold noodles) and a free gift of golden baked eggs. The old-style bulgogi at Dongchuwon Bulgogi was clean-tasting and never overpowering, so good it became the writer's "bulgogi of a lifetime."

Here's the outside!! Dongchuwon Bulgogi is a certified, proper good restaurant packed with Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon badges, and it's been known as a bulgogi spot in Hagik-dong for 10 years. It's Seoul-style bulgogi in a shallow broth, with a deep flavor that isn't over-seasoned at all, and it's one of the places in Incheon you really have to visit!!

They set out the first round of side dishes for you, but the self-service corner also has aprons, a water purifier, dishes, cups and plenty of side dishes, so help yourself if you need anything!

What's on the Dongchuwon Bulgogi menu?

The menu at Dongchuwon Bulgogi had lots of things: Korean beef bulgogi, old-style bulgogi, a health-tonic hotpot, yukhoe (beef tartare), flame-grilled squid, gomtang (beef bone soup), gukbap (rice soup) and more. They've even received awards and a master's plaque for their bulgogi. I wondered how good it could be, and it really is that good. It became my life bulgogi, lol

Old-style bulgogi for 2 with ongsimi: what comes to the table?

We ordered the signature dish, old-style bulgogi for 2. I really love ongsimi (potato dumplings), and they had it as an add-on, so that was the only thing we added!! Dessert naengmyeon (cold noodles), your choice of water or spicy depending on the number of people, is included too. Starting with the salad, then onions, bread, all kinds of vegetables and side dishes, it's a generous spread, isn't it?~

Basic table setting and side dishes for old-style bulgogi for 2

The salad is sprinkled with corn flakes and piled with fresh vegetables, and the dressing is a refreshing yuja (citron) dressing, so it's perfect for getting your appetite going, haha

Generous servings of vegetables and side dishes

Can you see how much other veg and side dishes there are? It's so generous that if one of the two of us dropped dead while eating, the other wouldn't notice!! And vegetables don't make you gain weight, so even better, haha

Old-style bulgogi piled up like a mountain

So it's only veggies and sides? Nope. The old-style bulgogi comes out piled up like a mountain, lol. It's so generous you can't help going "wow" the moment you see it, and the bulgogi tower (?) looks great too, haha. Since you eat it like shabu-shabu, they even bring the broth you can add if it runs low, in a whole kettle, haha

How do you eat old-style bulgogi at Dongchuwon Bulgogi?

You can grill the old-style bulgogi at Dongchuwon Bulgogi on the griddle, or plop it in with the vegetables and broth and eat it like shabu. I poured in the broth and piled on lots of vegetables and meat!! We grilled it at first, then later put it in with the vegetables, haha (two flavors in one go). There are instructions for eating it well too, so check them out :) haha

Dongchuwon Bulgogi old-style bulgogi with glass noodles, kabocha and mushrooms

Bulgogi loaded with glass noodles, kabocha squash, all kinds of mushrooms and vegetables!! It's not seasoned bulgogi but shabu-like bulgogi, so it's really clean-tasting and not over-seasoned, and you keep reaching for more. It was seriously good old-style bulgogi, haha. The moment I ate it, it hit my life-bulgogi level. My boyfriend said he hadn't seen me eat this well in a long time, lol (I stole all of it)

Making a mini bulgogi burger with bread, cheese and mustard

When you order bulgogi at Dongchuwon Bulgogi, they also give you bread, cheese and mustard sauce. Split the bread in half, add cheese and a little bulgogi sauce, and it's really good!! I instantly understood why Lotteria sells a bulgogi burger, lol

Golden egg gift and Dolsan mustard-leaf pickles from the review event

Right now Dongchuwon Bulgogi also gives out a golden egg as a gift, and inside are plump baked eggs cooked on hot stones (maekbanseok)!! The portions, quality and value are all great, and then they give you a service like this too, haha. It made me so happy.

Dongchuwon Bulgogi also runs a review event! Ask the staff for a receipt, write a review with 2 or more photos and the keyword "학익동맛집" (Hagik-dong good restaurant), and they give you Dolsan mustard-leaf pickles!! These pickles come out as a side dish too and they're really good. They taste just like myeongi-namul (pickled wild garlic greens), so they go great with meat. Be sure to join in and take some, haha

Dessert water naengmyeon at Dongchuwon Bulgogi
Dessert spicy naengmyeon at Dongchuwon Bulgogi

How big is the dessert naengmyeon?

The dessert naengmyeon at Dongchuwon Bulgogi is generous, as if you'd ordered it as a standalone dish. At normal BBQ places, dessert naengmyeon always came out in tiny portions, so I didn't expect much, but this place was different!! They serve noodles to match the number of people, and we tried one water naengmyeon and one spicy naengmyeon. Both were flawless, so just order whichever you prefer, haha

Omija tea served as dessert

Omija berry tea and nostalgic tub ice cream

For dessert they give you omija (five-flavor berry) tea, which was sweet and cold, perfect for cleansing the palate!! The quality, service and taste were all perfect, so I think I'll remember it for a long time.

Nostalgic self-serve ice cream
Dessert ice cream scooped into a cup

Do you all like this ice cream? It's the scoop-it-yourself ice cream they had when I went out for meat with my dad as a kid, and Dongchuwon Bulgogi has it too!! So I scooped one and tried it, and it tasted exactly like the old days T_T It brought back so many memories, haha

Verdict: Dongchuwon Bulgogi for a Korean lunch near Incheon court

From the bulgogi to the ice cream, every single dish at Dongchuwon Bulgogi was perfect, and I fully acknowledge it as a proper great restaurant. Next time I'm definitely bringing my parents. If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant near the Incheon courthouse and prosecutors' office, Dongchuwon Bulgogi is a total recommendation!
