Do you like dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken stew)?! It's one of my absolute favorite Korean dishes, I can't live without it!! I heard there's a spot in Guwol-dong, Incheon, where you simmer chicken stew in a cauldron lid set on top of a drum can, so I went to check it out!!
Tongkeun Sottukkeong Dakbokkeumtang Guwol Branch (통큰솥뚜껑닭볶음탕 구월점) is said to be a famous spot where 100% Korean chicken, prepared fresh every morning, meets deeply aged kimchi for a rich chicken stew ◟( ˘ ³˘)◞ ♡

Here's the exterior!! It's a 5-minute walk from Exit 6 of Yesulhoegwan Station toward Rodeo Square, so it's super easy to get to!! Drum-can cauldron-lid chicken stew is something you'd normally eat in Gapyeong or Yangpyeong, and now I can have it in Guwol-dong. Isn't that just so lucky?!

What's the interior like?
Every table has its own drum can, so you can sit at your seat and enjoy cauldron-lid chicken stew in comfort, which is a huge plus~~ I think it'd suit a Guwol-dong office lunch, a company dinner or a group get-together!! haha Is this Gapyeong or Guwol-dong?!
It was evening and the weather was cool, so they opened the windows, and the view of trees was so healing haha Do you all like the sound of rustling trees?

Menu at Tongkeun Sottukkeong
The menu has cauldron-lid chicken stew, aged kimchi chicken stew, soy-braised chicken (ganjang jjimdak) and more, so you can order to your taste. Add-ons range from fish cake skewers to cheese fried rice, and side dishes include acorn jelly (dotorimuk), shredded potato pancake, chili chive pancake and rolled omelet, so you could really eat until you burst!

They say the broth is amazing because they use only 100% Korean chicken and good ingredients!

They're also running a review event right now! Ask staff for your receipt, then post an Instagram story or write a Naver review and you get one 500cc draft beer!!
Cauldron-lid chicken stew for 2, with staff taking care of you
We ordered the cauldron-lid chicken stew for 2, and they brought it out on the lid soon after we ordered.

You just stir gently while it boils, but staff check on it and stir often, so you can sit back and eat. The bean sprouts, radish kimchi (kkakdugi) and white kimchi that came with it were so fresh and crunchy!! Totally a side-dish heaven haha

They even set a timer for us!! So thoughtful

Staff kept checking and told us we could start with the rice cakes, and that the chicken is ready to eat once it's fully cooked haha They also scooped out the cooked rice cakes and vegetables for us, so all we had to do was sit and eat hehe
Bubbling chicken stew, it looks so good!!!!

Does the chili chive pancake go well with chicken stew?
We added a chili chive pancake (ttaengcho buchujeon) because I thought it would go well with the chicken stew, and we were totally happy with it!!

It has little flour and is packed with fresh chives and hot chili peppers, so it's slightly spicy while the chive flavor really comes through. So good!! Dipping it in the chicken stew sauce works really well too :)

How does the chicken stew taste?
The chicken stew here is really spicy and rich, the kind of taste that makes you think of a glass of soju!! A perfect meal, honestly,, the chicken is moist, the sauce soaks right in, and it's so good you can't stop eating haha Boss, this is Gapyeong, right?!

Don't skip the fried rice to finish
The portion of chicken stew was big and I was about to burst, but I felt I had to have the fried rice, so I ordered one portion!! It's one portion, but they gave us a huge amount. The owner fries it in the chicken stew sauce with dazzling skill, and honestly the fried rice is the main event here haha Crazy good, seriously so delicious.
My boyfriend and I scraped up every last bit of the fried rice and talked about what a satisfying meal it was, a true, true great restaurant!! Next time I crave chicken stew, I'll go to Tongkeun Sottukkeong Guwol Branch instead of Gapyeong. The chicken stew place of my life, found in Guwol-dong!
