Mangwon bakery revisit: fried-crisp pain suisse at Boulangerie Copain

Boulangerie Copain (블랑제리코팡) is a bakery on Huiujeong-ro in Mangwon-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. On a second visit the writer took home six items: salt bread, fig financier, pain suisse, croissant, kouign-amann and melon cream bun. Boulangerie Copain's pain suisse, with pastry as crisp as something fried, was the best the writer has ever eaten. Boulangerie Copain has no seating, so it is takeout only, and it is a good Mangwon bakery for picking up anything from plain breads to sweet desserts.

Seocho burger joint: double cheese and strawberry shake, Daily Fix

Daily Fix Seocho Gyodae Branch is an American diner-style handmade burger restaurant on Seocho-daero 48-gil, between Seocho Station and Gyodae Station in Seoul. At Daily Fix Seocho Gyodae Branch, the blogger ordered a double cheeseburger with a hanwoo (Korean beef) patty, an 18Fries upgrade, a lemonade and a cream-topped strawberry shake, covering burger, side and drinks in one meal. For cheeseburger lovers who want a hearty meal with proper drinks, the Daily Fix double cheeseburger combo is a great fit.

Fine dining in Mangwon: green tea sparkling & sesame arancini, Noju

Noju (NOJU) is an Italian-style course restaurant on the second floor of a building near Exit 2 of Mangwon Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a third visit, the writer paired the Noju Signature Lunch (55,000 won per person, per the menu) with a non-alcoholic sparkling wine made from green tea leaves and apple, and named the sesame oil arancini as the favorite dish at Noju. For a stylish lunch without alcohol, the Noju Signature Lunch was a satisfying choice.

Seocho Station café: nutty unsweetened latte & chewy bread, Coffee829

Coffee829 Seocho is a roastery café about a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Seocho Station in Seoul. On an errand near Seocho Station, the writer ordered the signature latte, a financier, a chocolate brownie and a blueberry cream cheese chewy bread; the Coffee829 signature latte was nutty, with only the natural sweetness of milk, and the chewy bread went home as takeout because the writer was full. Coffee829 Seocho is a good Seocho Station café for a latte that isn't sugary and desserts made to pair with coffee.

Mapo Korean BBQ lunch with in-laws, aralia shoot pot rice: Moyeon Mapo

Moyeon Mapo is a hanwoo (Korean beef) charcoal BBQ restaurant near Exit 1 of Mapo Station in Mapo, Seoul. The writer took her parents-in-law to Moyeon Mapo for a weekday lunch, waited about 45 minutes even though it was just after opening, and ordered the lunch special marinated hanwoo charcoal BBQ set with pot rice (₩25,000). With staff grilling the hanwoo all the way through and pot rice made with aralia shoots, ginkgo nuts, abalone and butter, Moyeon Mapo made a satisfying lunch for hosting elders, though a reservation is a must for weekday lunch.

Nurikkum Square pho restaurant with kids' pho: Pho 36 Street Sangam

Pho 36 Street Sangam is a Vietnamese pho restaurant in Zone B, basement level 1 of Nurikkum Square in Sangam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. After a visit to a Seoul public kids café (Seoul-type Kids Café), the writer and their child ordered mini beef pho, a handmade pork tenderloin cutlet, the kids' mini beef pho and a sweet potato roll. The finely cut kids' pho, high chairs and baby tableware made the meal easy. For pho with kids around Sangam DMC, Pho 36 Street Sangam is a solid choice.

After falling for a butter sand she received as a gift, the writer visited Butter & Shelter Yeonnam and took home 6 desserts: a plain butter bar, crème brûlée, chocolate, original and glassé butter sands, and a raspberry cream cheese sand. Verdict: the desserts look luxurious but are easy on the wallet, making Butter & Shelter Yeonnam a good place to pick up gift desserts in Yeonnam-dong.

Shabu-shabu with mom after a Yongsan Park walk: Shabu in Seoul

Shabu in Seoul Yongsan Main Branch is a shabu-shabu restaurant in Yongsan, Seoul, about a 4-minute walk from Exit 3 of Samgakji Station and near the National Museum of Korea and Yongsan Park. After first visiting the Hapjeong branch, the writer came back with her mom on a chilly day for spicy mushroom broth with prime Angus chuck eye, finishing with the shrimp rose risotto that comes with the spicy broth. The spicy broth, tender chuck eye and rose risotto finish made for a satisfying meal.

Thai restaurant at Hapjeong Station for a 30°C lunch: Saeng Augustine

Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch (생어거스틴 합정점) is a Thai restaurant on basement level 1 of Mecenatpolis, directly connected to Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul.
