What did we eat with a friend at Ari Gyegok near Hanyang University?
For dinner and drinks with a friend at Ari Gyegok Wangsimni Hanyang University Branch (아리계곡 왕십리 한양대점), I ordered clay-pot cheese buldak (spicy fire chicken), chicken neck yurinchi (fried chicken with a tangy sauce), aged kimchi fried rice and kkakdugi bingsu (shaved ice), and picked an omija (five-flavor berry) infused liquor highball. It's a great spot near Wangsimni and Hanyang University for a drink with tasty snacks!
We came for dinner and a drink. The menu was so varied that I agonized over what to eat, but we ended up ordering plenty: clay-pot cheese buldak, chicken neck yurinchi, aged kimchi fried rice and kkakdugi bingsu. For the drink, I went with the omija infused liquor highball!
The food tasted good and looked so pretty that eating was fun. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice too, so we had a really pleasant time. If you're looking for a bar around Wangsimni or Hanyang University, give it a look~

How is the clay-pot cheese buldak as a spicy snack?
Ari Gyegok's clay-pot cheese buldak is spicy fire chicken topped with rich cheese and served in a clay pot (ttukbaegi). If you like spicy food with cheese, I'd recommend it as a drinking snack.
The first dish is the clay-pot cheese buldak! With a name like that, how could it not be good, haha. It's spicy fire chicken with savory cheese, so anyone who loves that spicy-and-cheesy combo will be drawn to it. It comes in a clay pot, so it looked appetizing right away.
They say we eat with our eyes first, right? When a dish that looks delicious arrives, you can't help getting more excited.
You get the spicy kick and the savory cheese together, which makes it a great match for drinks. It's good for sharing with a friend and also works ordered alongside other snacks. If you like spicy snacks, I'd recommend the clay-pot cheese buldak. If you're hunting for tasty bar food in Wangsimni, it's worth a try!

How is the chicken neck yurinchi different from regular fried chicken?
Ari Gyegok's chicken neck yurinchi (닭목살 유린기) pairs fried chicken neck meat with the tangy yurinchi sauce. It's a good pick when you want a fried snack different from your usual chicken.
At bars I often order chicken or other fried food, but this day I wanted something a little different, so I ordered the chicken neck yurinchi too. The tangy sauce plus fried chicken is such an appealing combo, and I found it interesting that they use chicken neck meat. It's a good choice when you want something other than the usual chicken.
Above all, everything we ordered looked great, so taking photos was half the fun! Atmosphere and looks really matter, I think +_+
Ordering a spicy dish like the clay-pot cheese buldak together with the chicken neck yurinchi also let us enjoy two different flavors. When one dish isn't enough, I recommend ordering several snacks and sharing!
Aged kimchi fried rice as the meal dish
The aged kimchi fried rice at Ari Gyegok Wangsimni Hanyang University Branch is a meal dish with the tangy flavor of well-fermented kimchi. Paired with a spicy snack like the clay-pot cheese buldak, it makes dinner properly filling.
When you're eating snacks at a bar, sometimes you start craving a rice dish too. Especially with spicy food, a meal like fried rice makes everything more filling. The charm of the aged kimchi fried rice is that signature tangy kimchi flavor. It goes well with the other snacks, and it's a good order when you want to make sure you've had a proper meal.
That day we also had the clay-pot cheese buldak and the chicken neck yurinchi, and with such a varied lineup we could enjoy a little of everything. Visiting with a friend, you each pick what you want and share, which is fun. Ari Gyegok is a nice place to go when you want to enjoy lots of different dishes together!

What is kkakdugi bingsu?
Ari Gyegok's kkakdugi bingsu is a shaved-ice dessert topped with mango cut into cubes like kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), with sweet mango ice cream inside. It was a great way to end a night of drinking, and one of the dishes that caught my eye most that day.
One of the dishes that caught my eye most that day was the kkakdugi bingsu! (It's mango cut like kkakdugi, hence the name.) It's fun to find bingsu on a bar menu, and the unusual name made me curious what it would be. It felt different from ordinary bingsu, so it stuck in my memory even more.
I also liked being able to finish with a sweet dessert after the meal and snacks. At a bar you usually focus on snacks, but a quirky item like this keeps things fun to the very end. If you prefer something a bit different from typical bar menus, keep an eye out for this one! The sweet mango ice cream is delicious :)
