I had to go to Jongno a few days ago, so I picked up some bread from Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵), a famous bakery in the area! Here's my honest review and menu recommendations, so stay with me-

Munhwa Bakery hours and location near Jongno 3-ga Station
Munhwa Bakery is open every day from 11:00 to 20:00, and it's close to Exit 7 of Jongno 3-ga Station. True to its name, the shop has a quiet hanok (traditional Korean house) look outside. There's even a big tree out front that feels like part of the decor... such a nice vibe.

It's only about 200 meters from Exit 7 of Jongno 3-ga Station, so it's perfect for grabbing bread after a date in Seochon. With this kind of weather, I think it'd be great for a picnic, or even for eating on the street while you sit and nibble!

Inside Munhwa Bakery: atmosphere and bread selection
When I walked in, I was shocked by how the breads were piled up... wow, so much bread! There were quite a few kinds, and they were stacked high. It's already a famous Jongno bakery, so I guess all that stock really does sell out.

Samples were available too. They also have an event giving a free salt bread when you write a receipt review, so definitely join in!

Straightforward bread names make choosing easy
Injeolmi bread (roasted soybean powder rice cake), peanut bread, mugwort rice cake bread, black sesame bread, milk cream bread, cheese bread, squid ink condensed milk bread! I love how plain the names are at Munhwa Bakery. At a lot of bakeries these days, you wonder what a bread even is because the names are so hard... and you can't imagine the flavor until you bite in. Here the looks and the names are both clear, so you just pick the one with the ingredient you like.

How much is Munhwa Bakery's garlic bread, and how does it taste?
The garlic bread at Munhwa Bakery is ₩6,800, and it's really big. When I went there was one garlic bread left, so I grabbed it, and right away the staff put out a fresh batch on display. I'd heard this garlic bread is very famous, so I was excited! It's seriously large, and at today's prices ₩6,800 feels really cheap! Great value.

The reviews for Munhwa Bakery's garlic bread were really good too... and this is crazy, it's so good T_T The baguette is crispy outside, super moist inside, and the garlic aroma is amazing. If you visit Munhwa Bakery, the garlic bread is a must-!

How big is Munhwa Bakery's coffee bread?
The coffee bread at Munhwa Bakery is ₩5,800, and it's so long that they slice it into easy pieces when you buy it! Wait, this coffee bread... why is it so long..? haha

A giant, long coffee bread like this for ₩5,800 is... honestly such a bargain T_T Munhwa Bakery had lots of hefty breads that could stand in for a meal rather than just a snack! Of course, I eat my meal and then bread as a snack, hehe. The coffee aroma is really good, and the cream inside and the coffee powder on the outside go so well together and feel so soft... totally recommend this one!

Munhwa Bakery also has sweet potato bread, white bean paste bread, walnut bread, rice chestnut loaf, rice cheese loaf, and maple cream cheese bread!

3 breads I took home from Munhwa Bakery
After working hard to choose- I got them packed. Munhwa Bakery put everything in a paper bag like this!

This is what I took home! Garlic bread, squid ink condensed milk bread, and maple cream cheese bread!

Squid ink condensed milk bread: fluffy bread, firm condensed milk cream
The squid ink condensed milk bread at Munhwa Bakery is fluffy outside, and the condensed milk cream inside is sweet and not runny but nice and firm, so it was so good..! I think it's best eaten right after you buy it. The texture is soft and fluffy, so I recommend eating it within a day or two. I'd recommend it to people who love sweet things and condensed milk, like me!

Maple cream cheese bread: streusel-like crust, rich cream cheese
The maple cream cheese bread at Munhwa Bakery looks a bit like soboro (streusel) on top! And the texture was really soft. There's a generous amount of cream cheese inside, so I think it works as a snack or a light meal. If you like cream cheese, I recommend this one!!

Garlic bread: my favorite, even as a non-garlic-bread fan
Munhwa Bakery's garlic bread became my favorite... I'm not usually a big garlic bread fan, but this one is crazy good, really T_T

It's moist inside and crispy outside💛 It's a taste that makes me want to go back to Jongno just for Munhwa Bakery's garlic bread.. Don't walk past it, definitely buy the garlic bread!
Is Munhwa Bakery bread a good gift?
Munhwa Bakery is such good value that I think it'd be great as a housewarming gift or as a snack to share at the office. It's a great bakery on Seosunra-gil in Jongno! I hope you'll visit-!
