Eel BBQ in Sagajeong with my husband, chive refills: Cheonsangae
In short
Cheonsangae Jangeoga Myeonmok Sagajeong Branch is a charcoal-grilled freshwater eel restaurant on Myeonmok-ro in Jungnang, Seoul, between Sagajeong Station and Myeonmok Station. The writer and her husband ordered the Seolhwa Wild Ginseng Eel set for 2. Staff grilled the eel, which the couple ate with stone sushi, salted oyster relish and baked potato. They refilled the perilla leaves and chives several times and got free nurungji (scorched rice). Cheonsangae Jangeoga's eel set is just the right amount for two and a good choice for an evening drink.

Atmosphere and side dishes at Cheonsangae Jangeoga
The interior is clean and tidy, and the side dish refill station was kept spotless too! At an eel restaurant I care not only about the taste but also about the atmosphere and how comfortable it is to eat, and this place is a good choice for family meals or gatherings with friends. If you're looking for somewhere to chat while you eat eel, it's worth keeping in mind :)

The basic side dishes were neat and tasty too. Every one of them goes well with eel! haha Personally, I loved the perilla leaves and chives so much that I refilled them several times haha

What comes in the Seolhwa Wild Ginseng Eel set for 2?
The Seolhwa Wild Ginseng Eel set for 2 comes with 2 large domestic freshwater eels, plus stone sushi, salted oyster relish, doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) and a baked potato. That's what we ordered this day, and since it was just me and my husband, the set for two was exactly the right amount~!! Besides the domestic freshwater eel there are lots of other dishes, so it's even more enjoyable haha

Do the staff at Cheonsangae Jangeoga grill the eel for you?
Yes, at Cheonsangae Jangeoga Myeonmok Sagajeong Branch the staff grill the eel. When you grill eel yourself you have to watch the heat and how done it is, and it can be hard to focus on the conversation, right? Since the staff do it, you can concentrate a bit more on the meal~ haha

They put the eel and wood ear mushrooms on from the start and stay beside the table, watching until everything is nicely grilled haha The charm of eel is the smoky flavor and nutty richness, and charcoal-grilled eel is all about the contrast between the golden-brown outside and the tender flesh! You get to enjoy that nutty eel taste along with all kinds of accompaniments, which makes for a rich meal~! If you love eel, or you've been looking for something to boost your energy, do visit at least once :)

Best ways to eat grilled eel with perilla, chives and sides
The Seolhwa Wild Ginseng Eel set for 2 comes with doenjang-jjigae, plus salted oyster relish and sushi rice (shari), so you can make your own eel sushi :)

The golden-brown eel can be turned into sushi like this, eaten on its own, or paired with the basic side dishes for yet another combination, which is the charm of it :)
Eating just one thing can get a bit tiring, but with so many accompaniments you can mix and match to your taste, which is fun. And they even gave us nurungji (scorched rice) for free, so of course we cleaned that up too hahahaha

They even grill a potato and bring it out~ This baked potato was heavenly too haha
