Sangsu Indian restaurant for date night: mutton palak, Deli India
In short
Deli India is an Indian restaurant on the second floor of a building on a side street between Sangsu and Hapjeong in Mapo, Seoul. Two of us started with a 2-piece samosa order, then shared butter chicken and mutton palak with both naan and rice: the creamy butter chicken went best with naan, while the spinach-rich mutton palak also paired well with rice. For a different kind of date-night dinner in Sangsu or Hapjeong, Deli India's two curries plus naan and rice is a great choice.

Craving a rich Indian curry in Sangsu: Deli India
Deli India is an Indian curry restaurant I visited because I wanted proper Indian food somewhere between Sangsu and Hapjeong. I like curry and eat it fairly often, and this time I was looking for dinner around Sangsu when I spotted Deli India, so off I went! haha The place turned out to have a better atmosphere than I expected, and the menu was varied too.

It was one of those days when I wanted a rich Indian curry to dip naan into rather than the usual franchise-style curry, so I went in with high hopes. If you're looking for a good curry spot in Sangsu or Hapjeong, have a look :)
Where is Deli India?
Deli India is on the second floor of a building on a Sangsu side street, and a DELHI INDIA sign is visible on the upper part of the building. You'll notice it as you walk along the street.

The exterior already felt a little exotic. Head upstairs and you reach the Deli India dining room.

There are lots of restaurants and bars nearby, so it's a good spot for a Sangsu date, or for dinner in Hapjeong before heading to a second round.
Deli India's interior and window seats
The inside of Deli India was cozier than I expected, with decor that really feels Indian. The space was snug, and I liked it from the first impression.

From the elephant decorations to the colorful lighting, patterned cushions and little props, there's an Indian touch everywhere haha

By the window there's long seating, and the big window looks down on the Sangsu street, which gave it a nice mood haha I thought a curry place would only feel casual, but the lighting is surprisingly atmospheric, so it works as a date-night restaurant in Sangsu too haha
Deli India's menu and what the two of us ordered
The Deli India menu covers a wide range of Indian dishes, from curries to 🐔 tandoori chicken, 🧈 naan, 🍚 rice and 🫔 samosas haha There are also set menus, so a bigger group could try a bit of everything at once.
Here's what we picked haha
- Samosa (2 pieces)
- Butter chicken
- Mutton palak
- Naan
- Rice

The two of us ordered two different curries so we could compare the flavors!
Samosa (2 pieces), a starter before the curry
The first thing to arrive at Deli India was the samosa, 2 pieces! A samosa is an Indian snack: a crispy fried triangle filled with potato and spices.

It's crispy outside and hearty inside, so it's more filling than you'd think haha Dipped in the green sauce served alongside, it gets a fragrant, fresh note that cuts the richness. A good starter to nibble on one piece at a time before the curries arrive.
Butter chicken: a good fit for Indian curry beginners?
Deli India's butter chicken is a curry with a gentle tomato tang plus the richness of butter and cream, so even people put off by strong spices can eat it comfortably. Butter chicken is the dish I order at almost every Indian curry place!

Thick and rich just from the look of it, right? It has the mild tomato tang with soft, savory butter and cream, so people who find strongly spiced food a burden can eat it relatively easily!
The sauce is very smooth and rich, so it tasted much better dunked generously with naan than eaten on its own. Put the chicken from the curry on top and the combination is complete! If it's your first time with Indian curry, starting with butter chicken seems like a good idea.
Mutton palak: how is it different from butter chicken?
Deli India's mutton palak is a spinach-based curry with mutton (lamb), so it's clearly a different style from butter chicken, from the color to the taste haha We ordered it as our second curry.

If butter chicken leans creamy and mellow, the mutton palak had a deeper spinach flavor with a bit more spice, and the distinctive meatiness of mutton on top made it feel like a more serious Indian curry!
If you order two curries, I'd recommend picking two different styles, like butter chicken + mutton palak, rather than similar ones! Alternating between them, we didn't get tired of either.
Naan, the natural partner for curry
Deli India's naan is fairly large and is pretty much a must once the curry arrives. You can tell from the photo that one piece is generous.

We tore the warm naan by hand and dipped it alternately in the butter chicken and the mutton palak, and it went really well with both. The middle of the naan is soft and chewy, while the edges have slightly toasted spots, so the texture was nice too. Loaded with curry sauce, one piece disappears faster than you'd expect.
Naan and rice: should you order both?
Naan alone felt like not enough, so we ordered rice too at Deli India, and I'm glad we got both. Personally, the creamy butter chicken suited naan really well, and the mutton palak was good with rice too.

After dipping naan, you can mix the leftover curry into the rice at the end and finish every bit of the sauce haha So if two of you visit, I recommend the combination of 2 curries + naan + rice!
Why I recommend Deli India for curry in Sangsu and Hapjeong
Of what I tried at Deli India, butter chicken was the easiest for most people to enjoy, and if you like more spice and something different, I'd recommend the mutton palak too. Ordering everything from samosa to curry, naan and rice felt like a proper Indian spread.
Above all, the interior has a better atmosphere than I expected and there are window seats, so it worked as a date spot as well. On a day when you want something a little different from your usual Hapjeong or Sangsu food, give Indian curry at Deli India a try :)
