Hapjeong brunch café: jambon-beurre sandwich, Minkyu Appane Bagel
In short
Minkyu Appane Bagel Hapjeong Branch is a wood-fired bagel bakery café on Dokmak-ro 8-gil in Mapo, Seoul, about halfway between Hapjeong Station and Sangsu Station. The handmade jambon sandwich costs 8,900 won and the potato bagel 4,900 won, and with an iced Americano the jambon tasted mild rather than salty while the thick layer of butter kept the sweet-salty balance right. For a chewy wood-fired bagel brunch in Hapjeong, the jambon sandwich is the one to order.

I've been having so much fun hunting down good bagel spots lately. This time I went to Minkyu Appane Bagel Hapjeong Branch, right between Hapjeong and Sangsu!

This place used to be known as Sun Terrace, and there's still a Sun Terrace sign at the entrance alongside the current one — so first-timers might get a little confused.

It's located right in the middle between Hapjeong Station and Sangsu Station, so it's a great stop when you're doing a café tour around either neighborhood.

Inside the café: is it good for solo visits or groups?
Minkyu Appane Bagel Hapjeong Branch is bigger inside than it looks from outside. There are cozy solo seats by the window and larger tables in the back for groups, so it seemed like a great spot for brunch with coffee, not just grabbing a bagel to go.

There's an Oreno Ramen shop right across the street, too.

Menu: wood-fired bagel flavours and cream cheeses

You can see the baking area and a huge wood-fired oven toward the back, which was fun to watch. Since the bagels are baked fresh every day, you're greeted by a warm, toasty bread smell the moment you walk in.

There are basics like plain, onion, olive, and blueberry, plus heartier options like scallion bacon, quattro cheese, basil tomato, salt butter, and almond chocolate — any one of which could be a filling meal on its own.

The cream cheese lineup is just as varied — plain, strawberry, fig, scallion, blueberry — so you can mix and match to your taste.

They also sell bingsu (shaved ice dessert)~

What I ordered at Minkyu Appane Bagel
What I picked was: the handmade jambon sandwich (₩8,900), the potato bagel (₩4,900), and an iced Americano — two items plus a drink!

Handmade jambon sandwich, 8,900 won
If you visit, I personally want to tell you: the bagels are great, but you have to try the jambon sandwich!

The filling packed between the bagel halves was substantial — you could feel the weight in one hand right away. Cutting it in half revealed a generous amount of jambon and butter, and the thick slab of butter especially looked amazing.

What I liked most was that the jambon's saltiness wasn't too strong. With jambon-beurre, if it's not done right, the ham's saltiness and the butter's richness can overwhelm you — but here the overall balance was solid! There was even a faint sweetness running through it that kept me reaching for more, bite after sweet-salty bite.
On top of that, it has a different charm from a regular baguette jambon-beurre. Instead of the baguette's crispness, the chewy, dense wood-fired bagel gave it a much stronger, more satisfying bite.
Potato bagel, 4,900 won
And the potato bagel quietly exceeded my expectations! Going in, I expected something plain and potato-flavored, but it was surprisingly packed on the inside, which was satisfying.

The bagel itself is already plump and dense, and with the soft potato filling inside, it felt even more fluffy and filling.

The outside, baked in the wood-fired oven, was slightly chewy, while the inside was soft thanks to the potato — a nice contrast in texture. It wasn't too sweet or heavy either, so it worked well for breakfast or brunch. Paired with a cup of coffee, it could easily be a full simple meal!

I personally love bread with potato in it, so I enjoyed this a lot — next time I want to try the salt butter and scallion bacon bagels too.
Final verdict on Minkyu Appane Bagel Hapjeong Branch
If you're looking for a chewy wood-fired bagel in Hapjeong, Minkyu Appane Bagel Hapjeong Branch is worth a visit! With so many bagel varieties to choose from and even sandwich options, it works more like a brunch café than a simple bakery.
The combination of thick butter, jambon, and chewy bagel comes together really well, so I'd recommend it to anyone who loves jambon-beurre. The potato bagel is also filling, so it's a good pick for fans of plainer bagels. If you're hunting for a good bagel spot around Hapjeong or Sangsu, stop by for a brunch with a cup of coffee :)
