Does everyone like pie? I loved pie as a kid, but at some point it started to taste too sweet and I stopped eating it. Then I got one as a thank-you gift, and it was so good I was moved, and ended up going to buy it myself. So today I'm introducing Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제).

How do you get to Hodu Kkakki Brothers near Yangjae Station?
Come out of Yangjae Station Exit 4 and head into the alley behind the CU convenience store, and you'll see it right away. The address is 10 Nambusunhwan-ro 351-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Unit 101.

How do you buy at Hodu Kkakki Brothers?
You pick the walnut pies you want from the display and take them away packed. Right on the left as you walk in there was a big freezer, and boxes for packing the pies were neatly lined up.

The display had many kinds of walnut pies, and you choose the ones you want yourself. Once you've chosen, the owner kindly helps pack them with great care.

MIX 1 gift set: price and packaging
What I ordered was Hodu Kkakki Brothers' gift set, "MIX 1."
Ordered: MIX 1 - ₩34,900

The owner packs the pies prettily and puts them in a bag for you.

Inside the package there's also an info card explaining how to eat the pies, and the design is so cute. I was told they use no refined sugar and make the base by hand every dawn, which got my hopes up even more.

Another card described each of the pies I picked, one by one. That kind of attention to detail made me think it would be great as a gift, and that the person receiving it would feel the care too.

And this is what I saw when I opened the box. Isn't it really pretty?

How did the 4 pies at Hodu Kkakki Brothers taste?
Macadamia cheese pie
With the first bite of the macadamia cheese pie, the nutty aroma of macadamia hits you, blending naturally with the soft flavor of the cheese. The crust underneath is thin but crisp, so every bite has a nutty crunch, and it keeps the cheese, which can get heavy, clean and light. I liked that.

Hazelnut cacao pie
The hazelnut cacao pie is generously topped with chocolate, so I expected it to be really sweet, but the sweetness wasn't overdone. The deep, rich aroma of cacao came first, followed by the nuttiness of hazelnut, and the finish had a quietly deep feel. It's not just a sweet dessert; it's a grown-up pie that would go really well with coffee or tea.

Signature walnut pie
I could see why the signature walnut pie is called the signature. Between the layered textures you taste butter and then the nuttiness in turn, and the aroma of the walnuts on top spreads really strongly. If you like walnuts, please try this one. Personally, it was the most memorable.

Original pecan pie
The original pecan pie had the charming sweet-yet-nutty flavor typical of pecans. It isn't too gooey or heavy, and the nutty aroma rises gently the more you chew, so it's easy to eat. The sweetness isn't excessive either, so I think even people who couldn't eat pie because it was too sweet would like it.
Is Hodu Kkakki Brothers good for thank-you gifts?
Hodu Kkakki Brothers, a Dogok-dong café that works well for thank-you gifts, has thoughtful packaging and a refined taste, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a gift or gift dessert. The set is easy for the recipient to accept without feeling burdened, so it should come across as a tasteful choice.
