In short
Mikkodam Sosabeol (미꼬담 소사벌점) is a Korean set-meal restaurant on the Sosabeol restaurant street in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, built around seaweed soup (miyeokguk) and cockles. Two adults and one child shared the 2-person set with beef seaweed soup plus a side of yukjeon (pan-fried beef patties), and the grilled mackerel, crisp outside and moist inside, got the child through two bowls of rice. Mikkodam in Sosabeol is the place where my kid said the food was so good that they ate two whole bowls of rice! Mikkodam Sosabeol is a Korean set-meal restaurant (hanjeongsik), so it has private rooms and easy parking, which makes it great for family outings. The seaweed soup and the cockles are the real deal!
Where is Mikkodam Sosabeol, and what about parking?
Mikkodam Sosabeol has a seriously big ground-floor parking lot right in front, so parking is easy. The address is 1662 Manse-ro, 1st floor, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it is open 10:30-21:30.

I've been driving for a few years now and I still break into a sweat every time I enter an underground car park, but Mikkodam's lot is roomy and easy, so you can hold a family gathering with no parking worries~ It's on Sosabeol's restaurant street, so there are lots of other good places around, and it connects straight to the main road, so it's easy to get to from anywhere.
Private rooms and baby chairs for dining with kids

The inside of Mikkodam Sosabeol is spick and span!!! It's also a Pyeongtaek restaurant with private rooms, and it has baby chairs too, so it's perfect for a family gathering~! I think it would be great for the year-end get-togethers coming up soon, too!
How do you choose a set menu at Mikkodam?

Maybe because Mikkodam is a Korean set-meal restaurant, there are lots of set menus. There are 2-, 3- and 4-person sets, and since we were two adults and one child, we ordered the 2-person set! For the side dish we picked yukjeon (beef pancake).
You can choose the seaweed soup from beef, flounder or abalone, and picking your cockle seasoning is part of the fun. Also, seaweed soup is a bit of a hassle to make these days, but at Mikkodam it comes as standard, so going there for a birthday meal feels like being treated to something extra nice.
Side dishes and beef seaweed soup

The basic side dishes at Mikkodam are kimchi, seaweed, japchae (glass noodles) and seasoned vegetables~ Now that I'm a homemaker... I've realized these sides are actually more work and harder to make than the main dishes. That's why I enjoyed them even more.

We ordered the beef seaweed soup, and wow, the broth was really rich, and it was generously packed with seaweed and beef.

Slurp up the seaweed and your whole body warms up, enough to get you through this cold weather!
Why my kid ate two bowls of rice: the grilled mackerel

The biggest reason my kid ate two bowls of rice at Mikkodam was none other than this grilled mackerel! Crispy outside, juicy inside, so delicious, and a hearty dish to eat plenty of.

Haha, my kid really finished all their rice with the mackerel~ I tried it with rice too, and the flesh was really thick and tasty.

Can you see how happily they're eating?! The dishes are brass bowls (nogeureut), too, so it feels like you're being treated to something special.
Side dish yukjeon and tteokgalbi

For the side dish we went with yukjeon, and the freshly pan-fried beef pancakes came with freshly tossed chive salad, a great match.

It's freshly made Korean food, so I thought it would be even better to come with the whole family.

Ta-da, the juicy tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) was also nicely mild in flavor when eaten with onion and chives.
Cockles: mix into rice or wrap in seaweed

My husband saw the cockles and immediately mixed them into his rice. At Mikkodam, seaweed soup and cockles alone are enough to polish off a bowl of rice~!

Ta-da! Putting those tasty cockles on dried seaweed and wrapping them up was a treat too~

The rice, the sides and the mains were all so good that we scraped everything clean, see?! A truly good restaurant should end up with empty plates like this, so you think, "Ahh, this place is good!" right?!
Mikkodam dessert: sikhye, sujeonggwa and puffed corn from a rice warmer

The owner of Mikkodam Sosabeol was kind, and there were all sorts of extras. A meal voucher event was running too!! On the way out you can also have sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) and sikhye (sweet rice drink)~! And here comes Mikkodam's highlight!

There's puffed corn snack kept inside a rice warmer, so it tastes almost freshly popped~ It was a nice way to finish with the sikhye~
Verdict: a Pyeongtaek Korean restaurant for family gatherings with kids
With parking, food and service all good for a family outing, Mikkodam Sosabeol was a great place to go with a kid and to hold a year-end get-together.
