What kind of place is Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch?

I had an errand in Guri, and for lunch I headed to the area near Starfield Hanam in Deokpung-dong. I heard there's a great seafood and braised pollock place here. Braised pollock and steamed seafood are always good, even when you've had them a lot, right?

Is parking easy at Appa Jjim Hanam?
There's a big parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so you can park and eat without worrying. There were also people managing the parking.
These days, when I go out to eat, I check whether there's parking first.

This is the outside of Appa Jjim on the building's first floor. In 2026 Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch won an excellence award in the steamed dishes category of the KCIA Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation for delivery food.

There was a slogan at the entrance~~ "Appa Jjim, raising the pride of flavor." (It's a pun in Korean.) It was so cleverly worded that I stared at it for a while. Appa Jjim's signatures seem to be monkfish steamed, seafood steamed, braised pollock and multtumbeong tang (a spicy fish soup).
Inside Appa Jjim Hanam and its Banseok monkfish steamed dish
When you walk into Appa Jjim Hanam, there are celebrity autographs standing in small frames. You can also see the kitchen, and the phrase "the first 180-degree Banseok monkfish steamed dish" caught my eye.
They steam monkfish and seafood in a high-temperature steam machine that uses Banseok (맥반석, a mineral stone), which they say keeps the seafood's juices and minimizes loss of nutrients. Monkfish steamed seems to be their signature dish. I'll have to try it next time.

The inside is big and bright, so groups could eat comfortably, and it would work for family meals or all kinds of gatherings. We went right at opening, and there was only one other party when we walked in, but the neat, pleasant restaurant was full of customers by lunchtime.
At the far end of the restaurant there's a small room-like hall where reserved guests and groups eat.
Appa Jjim Hanam menu, prices and perks

The menu says "the world's first Banseok monkfish steamed dish" and lists the benefits of Banseok. It's described as a mineral stone containing 45 kinds of minerals, of which over 40 dissolve out, good for metabolism and skin health, used as an anti-inflammatory for respiratory and skin conditions thanks to its preservative properties, and good for blood circulation.
Appa Jjim's perks were also listed.

Our order was cuttlefish braised pollock, pot rice, crispy seafood pancake, and extra siraegi.
What side dishes come at Appa Jjim Hanam?

After ordering, the side dishes came out first, and they were very neat. You get stir-fried fish cake, seasoned winter greens with tofu, braised beans, bean sprouts, seaweed, cabbage salad and cold seaweed soup.
The cold seaweed soup had onion and Cheongyang chili peppers in it, so it was cool, sweet-sour and a little spicy.

Once everything we ordered arrived, the table was full and generous.

Fragrant-rice pot rice, ₩2,500 per person
One pot of the fragrant-rice pot rice serves two, so I scooped the rice into bowls and poured water into the pot.
Cuttlefish braised pollock, ₩38,000: how does it taste?
Before bringing the cuttlefish braised pollock (₩38,000) to the table, a staff member removed the bones so it was easy to eat. They take out all the big bones, so you only deal with the small ones as you eat, which was convenient.
The braised pollock also has radish, tofu and rice cakes, and you can add more when ordering. You all know the radish, tofu and rice cakes in a braise are always extra good~~♡ Steamed with 180-degree high-temperature steam, the pollock was soft, and the cuttlefish was tender and chewy.
I added siraegi (₩5,000), and I think it was a good call. The sauce soaked right into the siraegi, so it was moist and soft, and my chopsticks were super busy. If you go to Appa Jjim Hanam, definitely add the siraegi. It's not tough, it's soft and delicious.
When ordering you can pick mild (default), slightly spicy or spicy, and I went with the default, but next time I'll try slightly spicy. I think it would be good with a bit more kick.

Wrapped in the seaweed they gave us too, yum~~ 😋
Is the ₩16,000 crispy seafood pancake worth ordering?
The crispy seafood pancake (₩16,000) at Appa Jjim Hanam was closer to fried food than a pancake. Totally crunchy outside, moist inside~~
It was so crispy you could hear the crunch, and as someone who loves fried food I was thrilled. They put in lots of squid and shrimp, so every bite had squid and shrimp. I could see why it's a popular dish.

Dipped in the secret sauce they gave us~~ 😋

If you like steamed dishes, stop by Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch in Deokpung-dong, Hanam. You'll leave with a happy heart.
There were snacks set out at the entrance too. And here's a line I liked.
