I wanted to eat proper hanwoo (Korean beef) with my husband, so I looked up good beef restaurants in Cheongna. Suksung Myeongjak has been chosen for the Blue Ribbon Survey six years running, plus a Red Ribbon, so we went to check it out :)

They only use hanwoo wet-aged at least 15 days below 1°C, and they're also a designated excellent retailer under the Korean beef promotion fund, so I went in with high expectations..!

Walking in, the clean, sleek interior paired with soft lighting made it feel like the perfect spot for a special occasion among Cheongna beef restaurants 😊 There are private rooms too, and free wine corkage, so it'd also work well for anniversaries or business dinners.

They're only open 5 hours a day, from 17:00 to 22:00, so a reservation is a must ^^

Two servings of aged hanwoo tenderloin on a plate

What does the aged hanwoo tenderloin for two taste like?

We ordered two servings of aged hanwoo tenderloin at Suksung Myeongjak Cheongna. It's the most tender cut of hanwoo, wet-aged over 15 days, and just the color of the meat on the plate looked different..! The marbling was fine and the grain distinct — you could tell it was premium just by looking at it.

A staff member grilled it for us, and when I cut off a piece and tried it, it practically melted in my mouth, with the deep flavor unique to aged beef spreading through my whole mouth 👍

It's low in fat with a clean, light taste, and the more you chew it, the more the natural sweetness of the meat comes through. My husband said, "This is honestly a different level," and ate it piece by piece, totally focused haha

Fresh truffle hanwoo tartare

As a side we ordered fresh truffle hanwoo tartare, and this was genuinely moving..! 😊 Fresh hanwoo tartare topped with fresh truffle — the truffle aroma spreads gently and blends with the nutty flavor of the tartare.

With one bite, the soft tartare and the truffle aroma rise all the way up to your nose — this is a flavor you can only get at Suksung Myeongjak. If you come to this Cheongna beef restaurant, you have to try the truffle tartare ^^

The sea urchin roe (uni) was amazing too

We also ordered sea urchin roe (uni), which is creamy and melts in your mouth with the flavor of the sea.

When you eat a bite of uni after eating hanwoo, the flavors of sea and land alternate — this combination is genuinely luxurious :)

Finishing with perilla oil buckwheat noodles and spicy seafood doenjang stew

We finished with perilla oil buckwheat noodles and spicy seafood doenjang (soybean paste) stew. The buckwheat noodles, wrapped in fragrant perilla oil and chewy texture, slide down cleanly for a satisfying finish.

The spicy seafood doenjang stew is spicy and rich with deep seafood umami, clearing your palate after all that meat. We each got a cheonggyul (green tangerine) ade too, which was refreshing and paired well with the beef haha

And then an anniversary cake, too

But that wasn't the end..! When we mentioned it was our anniversary, they brought out a cake. We were both touched by the unexpected surprise haha. A full course of aged hanwoo plus a cake .. Suksung Myeongjak, a Cheongna beef restaurant, is the kind of place that takes care of these little touches for your anniversary ^^

Recommending this Cheongna beef restaurant

Suksung Myeongjak, a hanwoo specialist aged 15+ days and selected for the Blue Ribbon Survey six years running, is clearly top-tier quality among Cheongna beef restaurants. From tenderloin to truffle tartare, uni, and perilla oil buckwheat noodles, there's no better place to enjoy a full hanwoo course. I recommend it for a special day :) 🥩
