Daegu greenhouse café with peach brot kuchen: Slow But Barrel

In short

Slow But Barrel Daegu is a large bakery café with a garden and a greenhouse at 113 Sinpyeong-ro in Dong-gu, Daegu. On a return visit the writer and her partner shared cheese ciabatta and the seasonal peach brot kuchen with an iced and a hot Americano, then walked around the pyramid sculpture and the outdoor garden. Each zone of Slow But Barrel Daegu has its own mood, so even a second visit never felt repetitive.

I went back to Slow But Barrel with my partner, a place I'd visited not too long ago.

I liked it so much on my first visit that even coming back, the walk in already felt welcoming.

True to its name, it has the kind of mood that makes you want to slow down and stay a while — a large Daegu café that comes to mind whenever I want to enjoy coffee and bread at an unhurried pace.

From the parking lot to the door: a path of silver grass and hydrangeas

At Slow But Barrel Daegu, the walkway from the parking lot to the café is lined with silver grass and hydrangeas. Even the short walk from where you park to the entrance already feels like a garden.

The path itself is nicely landscaped, so it's fun to take photos as you walk in slowly. The cute drop-off sign at the entrance and the clean, sleek gray concrete exterior added to the mood.

Walking inside, the wide floor plan comes into view — it feels less like a typical café and more like a resort lounge.

Through the terrace's full-length windows you can see the grassy yard, a red bench, and white parasols — on a nice day, it looked like a great spot to have coffee outside.

The pyramid that makes Slow But Barrel Daegu feel like a small Louvre

Walking around Slow But Barrel, I could see why it's nicknamed the 'Louvre of Daegu.' The outdoor area has a distinctive pyramid-shaped structure, introduced as a space that recalls the glass pyramid at the Louvre in Paris.

A grass pyramid and a mirror-like glimmering pyramid structure both caught my eye. It felt less like a café and more like an exhibition space or a small gallery — great for photos. Green plants trailing across the ceiling gave it yet another mood entirely. It looked striking even from a distance.

Iron chairs and tables mixed with the unusual sculptures, creating a feeling somewhere between a botanical garden and a modern exhibition space.

What stood out most was how the sky and surrounding scenery reflected off the mirrored sculpture. With nature and architectural structures blending together, the atmosphere was clearly different from an ordinary café.

Another fun thing about this place: look up, and you might catch a plane passing by. Sitting outside and watching a plane take off made me feel like I'd briefly gone on a trip, even while just sitting at a café.

With blue sky, clouds, and a plane crossing over the green garden, the outdoor space felt even more alive.

Watching planes go by while sipping coffee was a small pleasure unique to this café.

It's a sizable large-format Daegu café, and each zone has such a different mood that just walking around took a while. Even on a repeat visit, it felt like discovering a new space.

How were the cheese ciabatta and peach brot kuchen?

The bakery counter at Slow But Barrel Daegu had a wide variety of breads — croissants, cheese ciabatta, peach brot kuchen, and more. This time I picked the cheese ciabatta and the peach brot kuchen.

The cheese ciabatta was crisp outside and chewy inside.

The more I chewed, the more a subtle sourness came through, with salty rolled cheese adding to it — it paired well with coffee.

Peach brot kuchen topped with Sangdong peaches

The peach brot kuchen, topped with Sangdong peaches, was refreshing, and I liked the mild sweetness of the crisp crumble on top. Being a seasonal menu item made it taste even better.

For drinks I ordered an iced Americano and a hot Americano — both had a heavier body rather than sharp acidity, which made them a good match for the bread.

Where to sit and the best time to visit Slow But Barrel Daegu

Slow But Barrel Daegu offers a variety of seating — window seats, the outdoor yard, the greenhouse space — so you can choose according to your mood, and the parking lot is fairly spacious, which made it easy to visit by car. Anyone looking for a Daegu dessert café or Daegu bakery will enjoy browsing the wide bakery selection too.

Even on a weekday afternoon it was fairly busy, but the space is large enough that it wasn't an issue. It'll likely get more crowded on weekends, so if you want a relaxed visit, I'd recommend going in the morning.

Once again, my partner and I slowly wandered around while enjoying coffee and bread, and it left us satisfied.

What made it appealing was that it's not just a place to drink coffee — with a Louvre-like pyramid sculpture, a greenhouse full of green plants, a wide garden, and even planes crossing the sky, this Dong-gu, Daegu café has plenty to see.

Even as a repeat visit, there was so much to see that it never felt boring, and next time I'd like to come back after the season changes to see the garden in a different mood.

If you're looking for a Dong-gu, Daegu café, a large Daegu café, or a Daegu bakery café, I'd recommend Slow But Barrel. Beyond the coffee and bakery, you can enjoy the unusual spaces and outdoor scenery too — it's the kind of café that makes you want to come back rather than visit just once.
