BBQ lunch with a baby in Palgongsan, Daegu: Memphis platter at Modak
In short
Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch is a Texas-style barbecue restaurant on Palgongsan-ro in Dong-gu, Daegu. During a Palgongsan outing with a baby, the writer ordered the Memphis platter and the lunch special shrimp cream pasta. The baby happily ate the tender barbecue meat, but the shrimp cream pasta was still a little spicy for a baby even when ordered mild. With a tree-filled, camping-style outdoor area, Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch is worth a stop for a family lunch with a baby.

While we were in Daegu, I wondered where to take the baby and ended up on a day trip to Palgongsan. When you travel with a baby, pretty places are nice, but the biggest worry is always where to eat, right? This time I wanted meat, and also a menu we could share with the baby, so we went to Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch (모닥텍사스바베큐 팔공산점), a barbecue spot in Palgongsan.

Where is Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch, and what is the outdoor area like?
Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch is at 290 Palgongsan-ro, 1st floor, Dong-gu, Daegu. It has an outdoor area, which made it even better for going with a baby.

The first thing that caught my eye when we arrived was the outdoor space. There are lots of trees and outdoor tables, and some seats are set up as if you were out camping.

The weather was lovely the day we went, so eating outside seemed like a fine idea. The atmosphere was nice for a meal during a Palgongsan outing with a little one, too.

The baby really did have fun out there, looking around at everything.
What comes in the Memphis platter, and how does it taste?
At Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch, we ordered the Memphis platter and, as the lunch special, the shrimp cream pasta. The moment the Memphis platter arrived I liked it, because it was more generous than I expected.

Along with several kinds of barbecue meat, it came with dinner rolls, tortillas, french fries, salad, coleslaw and sauces, so instead of eating nothing but meat you can mix and match. Above all, the meat was really tender.

I had worried barbecue might be dry, but it wasn't at all. It was soft and easy to eat. I cut the meat the baby could have into little pieces, and the baby ate it far better than I expected. When the baby eats well, mom is just extra satisfied, you know?
We wrapped it in tortillas, tucked it into dinner rolls, and it was tasty even on its own, but I liked wrapping up a bit of this and that the best.

How to wrap it in tortillas and dinner rolls
Putting the tender barbecue and vegetables in a tortilla makes it eat like a taco, and I also stuffed meat and coleslaw into the dinner rolls however I liked. It was fun to pair different sauces with different meats, too.
At first I wondered whether one platter would really be filling, but with the tortilla wraps and the bread, it turned out to be quite hearty. It also looked good for a group to order a few dishes and share.
Can a baby eat the lunch special shrimp cream pasta?
The lunch special I ordered at Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch was the shrimp cream pasta. I ordered it for the baby, but even though I asked for it not spicy, there was still some heat left for a baby.

I ordered it to share with the baby and asked for it not spicy. It was fine for mom and dad, but I guess it still felt spicy for the baby. In the end I rinsed the noodles lightly in water and fed just a little^^;
If you order it to eat with a baby, I think it's worth double-checking the spice level before ordering. Instead, the baby ate the tender meat from the Memphis platter so well that I gave the baby more of that for the meal.
Why it was a good stop with a baby during a Palgongsan outing

When you eat out with a child, the taste matters, but I found it matters quite a lot that the space doesn't feel stuffy.

In that sense, I liked that at Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch you can eat and then also look around the outdoor area. In a cool, nice-weather season like now, I think eating at the outdoor seats would have a really good atmosphere.

We tried the Memphis platter, and the meat was much more tender than I had expected. The fact that the baby ate it well made it even more memorable.

Stuffing various meats into tortillas and dinner rolls made the portion quite filling, too. If you're on a Palgongsan drive or outing and want a slightly different kind of meat dish, this is a barbecue place worth a family visit. Next time, on a nice day, I'd like to try eating at the outdoor seats.
