Jeongseong Katsu

While hunting for a good tonkatsu place in Ilsan, I found one I was really happy with, haha. There are so many katsu places these days, right? But when you actually go, a lot of them are just pricey and ordinary, and quite a few have thick batter and thin meat. Jeongseong Katsu Ilsan KINTEX (정성카츠 일산킨텍스점) was easy on the wallet, tasty, and clean, so I'd happily come back. Here's my honest review from the visit.
Jeongseong Katsu at Ilsan KINTEX: Is It Good Value?

Jeongseong Katsu Ilsan KINTEX was a tonkatsu place with really high satisfaction for the price. Eating out has gotten so expensive lately. Plenty of places charge well over ₩15,000 for a single cutlet dish, but here the portions weren't skimpy and the set was well put together, so I left full. It's not just cheap; the food quality is good for the price, which is why it felt like good value.
Atmosphere at Jeongseong Katsu Ilsan KINTEX
The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean it looked. The tables were spaced out enough that you're not squeezed against the next table, and everything was tidy, so I could eat comfortably.

What Does the Kimchi Cheese Nabe Katsu Taste Like?

After some thought, I ordered the kimchi cheese nabe katsu (nabe means hot pot). It looked so good in the photos that I knew I had to try it.

It arrived bubbling hot, and the look of it alone got my appetite going. Kimchi, cheese and a cutlet is a hard combination to get wrong, and it lived up to expectations. Even the smell of the broth was great, haha.

I took a spoonful of the broth first, and the refreshing kimchi flavor and a moderate kick blended really well. It wasn't too intense, so I kept going back for more.

There was plenty of cheese, which made the broth feel much smoother, and dunking the cutlet in it left the outside moist and the inside juicy. There was even egg in it, which made the broth richer, and eaten with rice, the whole bowl disappeared in no time.
Sweet Potato Cheese Katsu ★★★
The sweet potato cheese katsu was also really satisfying. The moment I cut it in half the cheese stretched out, and it passed the looks test right away, haha.

It's packed with sweet potato mousse, so a gentle sweetness comes through and pairs really well with the savory cheese. The pork was thick with a good chew, and the batter wasn't overly thick, so it never felt greasy to the end.
Sweet potato, salty cheese and crunchy cutlet worked together really well. I think kids would love it, and anyone who likes cheese will definitely be happy with it.

What I Liked About Jeongseong Katsu Ilsan KINTEX
- The portions were generous for the price.
- The pork was thick and had a good chew.
- The place was clean and the staff were friendly, so it was a pleasant meal.

Best of all, I was very happy with both the kimchi cheese nabe katsu and the sweet potato cheese katsu!
