After only ever visiting the Gyoha branch, the writer tried another Paun Coffee branch for the first time on a weekend morning and ordered a plain salt bread, a financier, a choco madeleine and 2 coffees. Paun Coffee (파운커피) Unjeong branch

On weekend mornings I always crave really good coffee and freshly baked bread, for some reason. This time I visited the Unjeong branch of Paun Coffee, a Paju spot with a big word-of-mouth following. I've been to the Gyoha branch many times, but this was my first time at the Unjeong one.
Conclusion first: it was much more satisfying than I expected. The space is bigger, the terrace is great, and above all the freshly baked salt bread really impressed me. If you're looking for a good place in Unjeong, Paju, or a café with tasty bakery items, I hope you'll stop by at least once.

What was the weekend morning atmosphere like at Paun Coffee?
I went on a weekend morning, right when the sunlight was pouring in.

The morning light came in so prettily. The weather was nice too, so it was the perfect mood for a cup of coffee.

Even though I came early, customers kept walking in, so it seems this is already a well-known café in the neighborhood. It's no accident that it comes up so often in searches for good spots in Unjeong, Paju.
How big is the Unjeong terrace compared with the Gyoha branch?
The Unjeong branch of Paun Coffee is a different scale from the Gyoha one. Gyoha has a nice vibe too, but Unjeong feels much bigger and more relaxed. I especially loved the terrace.

On a nice day, drinking coffee outside would be really healing. The open, unstuffy feeling makes you want to stay a long time.

Paun Coffee interior: stylish and warm as always

Whichever branch you go to, Paun Coffee seems to have much the same feel. The wood tones and warm lighting go well together and the mood is comfortable. Photos come out really well too, so I kept picking up my camera, haha.
The interior is spacious, clean and high-ceilinged

Inside the Unjeong branch, the ceiling is really high. It doesn't feel stuffy at all, and I loved the airy sense of space. The tables are spaced widely too, so you can relax without worrying about the people next to you.
It's good on your own and also just right for chatting with a friend.
What kinds of salt bread does the Unjeong branch have?
The Unjeong branch displays bread baked in-house, and the salt bread range runs from plain to mentaiko (spicy pollock roe). The bakery corner was what I was most looking forward to, and the smell of freshly baked bread was crazy good.

The salt bread selection at Unjeong was especially wide. Plain, of course, and even mentaiko salt bread, quite a lot of kinds. If you usually love salt bread, choosing will be a real dilemma. I understood why so many people come to this Unjeong spot just for the bakery.
5-6 kinds of baked goods too

It's not only salt bread; the baked sweets were varied too. There were about 5-6 kinds, including financiers (small butter almond cakes) and madeleines. They're all desserts that go well with coffee, so picking just one was hard.
Ordering a salt bread, 2 baked sweets and 2 coffees

After much agonizing, I ordered one plain salt bread, one financier, one choco madeleine, and two coffees.

The bread had just come out of the oven, which raised my expectations even more.

How were the financier and choco madeleine?
The Paun Coffee financier was rich in butter flavor and moist, and the choco madeleine had a strong chocolate aroma. I tried the baked sweets first, and the financier was really good. I liked the texture: slightly crisp outside, moist inside.
The choco madeleine has a deep chocolate aroma too, so people who like sweet things will probably be happy with it. It paired really well with coffee.
Paun Coffee's plain salt bread: a must-try here

And now, the star of the day: the plain salt bread. One bite and I knew right away why it's famous. Crisp outside, moist inside, with a strong buttery aroma.
The salty flavor went really well with the butter. The nutty taste kept coming the more I chewed, and I finished the whole thing in no time.

Personally, it's among the best salt breads I've ever had. If you're looking for a good spot in Unjeong, Paju, I really hope you'll try this salt bread.

Why I want to go back to Paun Coffee
Eaten with coffee, it was truly the best combination. This visit made me understand properly why the Unjeong branch is so popular: a spacious, pleasant space, a warm atmosphere, in-house baked goods, and really delicious salt bread.

I felt it wouldn't be a waste to come all the way to Unjeong for this café alone. Next time I'm definitely trying the mentaiko salt bread. If you love bakeries, save Paun Coffee, a tasty bakery in Unjeong, Paju. I think it'll be a café you won't regret.
