What kind of optician is Hwangseonsaeng in Ruwon City?
Hwangseonsaeng Angyeong Lensme Ruwon City Branch (황선생안경 렌즈미 루원시티점) is an optician in the SK Leaders View arcade in Ruwon City, near Cheongna. It's less a budget glasses shop and more a place that specializes in lenses and eye exams. If you wear glasses, you know they're basically part of your eyes, so finding a shop that does it properly matters. These weren't my glasses this time, though. I went to Hwangseonsaeng to get Dad an eye exam and a new pair.

Even the exterior says "good optician to visit with your parents"! It already looks classy.

This is the entrance! On the right as you walk in there's also the Lensme lens shop, but mostly it's eye exams and a wide range of frames.

Hwangseonsaeng handles Tokai lenses and Zeiss lenses, and even does Zeiss precision exams. Compared with ordinary blue-light-blocking lenses, they're much easier on the eyes and focus well, so this is a specialist shop for glasses that feel comfortable!
Mr. Hwang (황선생) wasn't in when I visited, but two friendly opticians were there to explain everything. He seems to come by once or twice a week. There's also a certificate showing the shop is an authorized dealer for Zeiss, Tokai and Essilor lenses~

Which frame brands does Hwangseonsaeng carry?
It's not just lenses. The frame brands here are seriously varied, from imported brands to domestic ones! Brands I've only heard of, brands I've never heard of, all of it. If you care about frame brands, Hwangseonsaeng near Cheongna would be shopping heaven!

I don't really know them... haha. All I know is that lightweight titanium frames are good~

I know Hazzys! Apparently they carry imported brands like Tom Ford, Renault, Anne et Valentin, Mykita, Thom Browne, Kamemannen, Ic! Berlin, Masunaga, Kinjo Optical, Moscot, Haman Optical, Garrett Leight, Oakley and Rudy Project, plus domestic house brands like Rawrow, Public Beacon, Tetsuo, Specs Monata and Lapis Sensible.

I know the ultralight titanium brand Rawrow too! LOLOLOL Playing "find the frame brand you know" in this huge space.

There are also fixed-price frames at ₩10,000, ₩30,000, ₩50,000, ₩70,000 and ₩90,000.

This side is the sunglasses zone~ the goggles zone~ anyway! This whole big area is frames,,,! Of course there's a kids' frame zone too! Some frames are slip-resistant, so they look well set up for children's vision correction.

How does the eye exam at Hwangseonsaeng work?
The exam starts outside with a brief explanation and astigmatism and nearsightedness checks, then moves to two exam rooms inside, where the optician looks closely at focus and checks the state of the retina. The equipment is incredible!

You can also watch the results live on a screen outside like this. The equipment honestly holds its own against an eye clinic.

Dad was inside being tested while Mom and I watched on the screen outside. I'm not a professional optician so I couldn't really read it, but it felt like, wow, they're being thorough~ And older people feel kindness in every little step of an exam like this~
What are the Lutina lenses Dad chose?
After the exam, Dad chose the Lutina aspheric single-vision lens, a lutein-care lens. It's meant to protect the macular cells, which handle 90% of your vision, and is recommended if you use a computer or smartphone a lot, find glare makes outdoor activity uncomfortable, or have light blur and tired, hazy eyes. Anyway, a high-performance lens, chosen~
A flexible frame from the ₩90,000 fixed-price range
Next, the frame. Since we went top-end on the lenses, let's keep the frame reasonable~ From the ₩90,000 fixed-price tier, we picked a highly flexible one that looks like it would never snap!

There are various promotions, but since I got a partial discount, I couldn't take part in them. Lutina lenses can't be made on the spot and take at least a day, so we planned to come back on the weekend. On the way out, one last step!
How does the fitting measurement work after choosing a frame?
At Hwangseonsaeng, once you pick a frame, there's a measurement step to decide the lens center so the glasses fit that frame and your eyes exactly.

You stand like this wearing the glasses

and they take photos from both sides and the front to decide where the center of the lens goes! This machine is a precision instrument that's quite expensive, and apparently only a few shops have one.

Picking up Dad's glasses at Hwangseonsaeng on the weekend
We picked up the Lutina lens glasses at Hwangseonsaeng in Ruwon City on the weekend, in the area with the repair tools. And so, the weekend came~ back to Ruwon City again~

This is where you collect your glasses! The zone full of repair tools! Dad sat here too, and they did a final adjustment to fit his face shape~

It came with a warranty card saying Lutina + lenses were used. First time I've ever seen a lens warranty card,,,,haha

Blackmonster DB26 Ultra Flex: Dad's first reaction
Brought them home! This flexible frame looks like it would never snap even if you left it by your pillow and rolled onto it in your sleep. The frame is the Blackmonster DB26 Ultra Flex!
Dad got an unbreakable, easy-to-carry frame plus lenses that protect the retina, a pair he'll probably use for a long time. He tried them for the first time today and was happy that his phone looks clear and even when he's cutting his toenails everything looks sharp,,,heh,,,,
