Paju café with slow-melting mango bingsu at 7pm: Fruit Forest
In short
Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store is a fresh-fruit café on Dolgotji-gil, in the Simhaksan food alley in Paju, Gyeonggi. A Friday visit at 7pm meant easy parking and a fresh mango snow bingsu for 32,000 won, which piles a mango and a half plus half a mango's worth of purée over milk ice. Scooping from the bottom up keeps each spoonful clean, and the bingsu melts slowly enough for two people to share at an easy pace.

Last Friday's shabu-shabu was actually just the buildup to eating bingsu (shaved ice dessert). The real reason we came out to Paju was to eat this Fruit Forest mango bingsu!!
Where is Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store, and what about parking and hours?
Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store sits in the Simhaksan restaurant alley. It's right in front of Simhaksan Tteurak, so it wasn't hard to find at all.
It's a pilotis-structure building with its own parking lot, and around 7pm on a Friday there were plenty of open spots.

After parking, you head up to the 2nd floor — no elevator, which was a bit of a bummer, but hey, we're here for mango bingsu, so who cares~
- Open daily 10:00 – 21:00
- Last order at 20:30
Since it's a café, there's no break time, and it stays open pretty late, so it's great to swing by after dinner nearby when you want genuinely good bingsu for dessert.
Inside Fruit Forest: the big fruit fridge and mangoes left to ripen
The moment I walked into Fruit Forest, I was struck by how strongly it smelled of fruit. The mango and peach scent was so sweet it hit you right away.

And since they have to keep the fruit fresh, it's very, very chilly inside.

You can tell they're serious about fruit — there's a huge fruit fridge and they manage the ripening themselves right here. The fruit is stored so pieces don't bump or dent each other, all neatly arranged!

How could you not want to go after seeing mangoes like this,,,, fresh mangoes mid-ripening,,,so pretty!!!

The bingsu mango gets pulled straight from this fridge and prepped fresh for your order.
Beyond mango, there's also the classic injeolmi (soybean powder rice cake) red bean bingsu, plus peach, melon, and a 10-fruit assorted bingsu!
What we ordered: fresh mango snow bingsu, 32,000 won
It's also a fruit café where you can just order fruit alone. Since they only use fresh fruit, they sometimes run 1+1 promotions to move stock quickly.

There's also some simple bakery items alongside the fruit, but honestly I was too busy admiring the fruit,,,didn't look too closely. Whoever's reading this post is probably here for the fresh mango bingsu anyway~

Seating and restrooms at Fruit Forest
There's quite a lot of seating. Right in front of the counter, where you can watch the fruit, there are plenty of seats,

and further in there's comfy sofa seating. Of course, that's where we sat haha.

And this is one wall — since we visited right around sunset, the window shapes were reflected on it, making it even prettier.

So we tried taking a photo, and I wanted to step back for it, but what even is that background,,,,??? Auto-focus selfies still fail me lolllllllll
And just in case, for fellow stomach-troublers like me who might suddenly get a stomachache after inhaling a ton of bingsu — there's a nice clean restroom inside the shop.
Restroom location confirmed~ nothing left to do but eat.
A mango and a half, piled whole on the bingsu
Since the mango is prepped fresh on the spot, it takes about 10 minutes even when there's no backlog of orders.

But it's absolutely worth the wait. I hear the Shilla Hotel's mango bingsu runs over 100,000 won — this one isn't quite that much fruit, but the mango quantity here is still seriously generous!!!!!!!
A whole mango and a half goes in, plus about half a mango's worth turned into purée and served alongside — that's the Fruit Forest fresh mango bingsu.

The purée isn't made overly sweet either — it just feels like gathered bits of slightly crushed mango.
Why the milk ice is the real point
And the real highlight of mango bingsu — the milk ice~~~!!!

Plain ice just doesn't taste like this. You need to freeze a proper mix of water and milk and then shave it just right so it doesn't melt too fast, still tastes of milk, and pairs well with mango~~

Even the ice alone is sweet and delicious,

and the mango alone is obviously delicious too. Properly ripened, fresh mango!! It's not thinly sliced either — cut in big chunks, so you really get the full flesh and aroma.

So at first I just kept picking out the mango bits haha,

then finally snapped out of it and started eating it with the milk ice lolol. So good it's unreal,,,,,,,,,,, summer is for fresh mango bingsu, isn't it?????
Sharing between two: scoop from the bottom up
One downside of Fruit Forest's fresh mango bingsu is that it's a bit tricky to eat with multiple people,,,? One handy tip though — instead of scooping top to bottom, scoop bottom to top for a clean scoop.
Like this! Scoop the ice from the bottom first, then tilt the mango over it — comes out perfectly!
Eat some fruit, eat some ice cream on top~

There's quite a lot of cheese piled on too, and eating it with the milk brings out a sweet-savory flavor that spreads through the whole bite.

And the mango comes as a mix of really sweet pieces and slightly tart, refreshing ones, so there's fun in picking — sweet times two, tart times one.

By the time you've eaten a good amount, the mango bingsu ends up looking like this hahaha. Even so, we're both slow eaters, and for bingsu this held up well without melting! I really don't like it when it turns to water at the end haha

By the time we were nearly done, we could see the sun going down through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Maybe it's because we'd just had something delicious on a Friday, but even the sunset view looked prettier.

While eating, I found an oddly shaped mango piece, probably with a bit of the fibrous part attached — I said it looked like a snail, and Neongkuri said it looked like a whale. From my side it's clearly a snail, no??
But she kept saying whale,,,,, she probably thought this KakaoTalk convo would never get posted,,, and she was sitting right next to me the whole time, texting just to tease me.
Is Fruit Forest worth it for mango bingsu in Paju?
If you're out on a Paju outing looking for a fruit café or a bingsu piled high with fresh fruit, Fruit Forest gets my full recommendation. It's cheaper than most fresh mango bingsu out there, and the standout is how much plump mango is packed in. Other places tend to slice it thin and spread it out, but here they cut it into thick chunks and pile it on — a true fresh mango bingsu sanctuary!
