Korean BBQ in Ansan Gojan-dong: 900g marinated short ribs at Yangmun

Today I went with my husband and daughter to a short rib place in Ansan's Gojan-dong that is seriously good value! A lot of you are probably looking for a good Gojan-dong restaurant or BBQ spot, so let me introduce 'Original Charcoal Short Rib Yangmun Ansan Gojan' (원조 숯불소갈비 양문 안산고잔점), which was perfect in flavor, service and price.

Where is Yangmun Ansan Gojan?

Yangmun Ansan Gojan is on the main street of Doriseom Shopping District in Gojan-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi, and you can walk there from Ansan Jungang Station and Gojan Station. It's near NC Department Store Ansan, so it's easy to find.

Yangmun Ansan Gojan sits at the entrance of the Doriseom main street with a big, flashy sign, so even first-timers can spot it right away. There are lots of nice cafés and shops around, and since it's on the Gojan-dong / Gojan New Town drinking street, it's very convenient for an Ansan Jungang dinner, a company get-together or a family gathering.

How much are Yangmun's marinated short ribs 3+3 and 2+2?

At Yangmun Ansan Gojan, the instant-marinated short ribs 2+2 are 600g in total for ₩49,900, and the 3+3 are 900g in total for ₩59,900. Even around Gojan Station this is top-tier value, making it a perfect no-pressure Gojan-dong meal.

Choose your marinade: green onion, garlic or onion

When you order by tablet at Yangmun Ansan Gojan, you can pick your favorite among Jindo Sinan green onion, Uiryeong garlic and Muan onion instant-marinated short ribs, which makes choosing half the fun.

We ordered the Uiryeong garlic instant-marinated short ribs and the Jindo Sinan green onion instant-marinated short ribs as a 3+3 (₩59,900).

What side dishes and free extras come out?

At Yangmun Ansan Gojan, beef hangover soup and spicy cold noodles come free along with the basic side dishes. The side dish setup is very neat too, but the free extras are the real wow.

Free short rib hangover soup

This is a spicy hangover soup (haejangguk) simmered with meat left over from trimming the short ribs. The broth is rich and deep, so it's perfect as a drinking snack before the meat arrives.

Free spicy cold noodles

Sweet-and-sour spicy cold noodles (bibim naengmyeon) come as standard too, and wrapping them around the meat bursts with savory flavor, the best combo.

Yangmun's short ribs are clean and nutty even just grilled, but if you spread butter on them following the store's 'how to enjoy Yangmun' guide, you get an even richer range of flavors. They say the ribs are from the top 15% grade, so the fat is just right and the taste is light.

How to eat it with butter

• Grill raw or marinated short ribs over charcoal until golden.
• Spread the Ottogi butter that comes with the meal on one side of the well-grilled meat and let it melt.
• The nutty butter coats the meat and is said to give it an even deeper flavor.

We ordered marinated short ribs, though, so we dunked them in the special pickled onion sauce and wrapped them with onion, or put them on top of the included cold noodles, which was a real treat.

Yangmun Ansan Gojan is the ultimate value spot, with generous short ribs plus free spicy hangover soup, sweet-and-sour cold noodles and even dessert ice cream! It also has lovely outdoor patio tables (yajang), and in this cool weather it's just right for eating short ribs with that outdoor vibe.
