I was on the hunt for a real BBQ restaurant near Gangnam Station when I found Gogikkun Kimchunbae. I went with the couple set and both the composition and the quality were so good I had to write about it.

Booking a weekend table on Naver: 3rd floor vs 4th floor

I visited on a weekend, and since this is such a well-known BBQ restaurant near Gangnam Station, I booked ahead through Naver to avoid waiting. My reserved seat was already set up like this.

3rd floor seating packed with customers
Gogikkun Kimchunbae, a Gangnam Station favorite — 3rd floor

You can see how packed it was. Gogikkun Kimchunbae, this Gangnam Station favorite, has a 3rd and 4th floor, and the atmosphere on each is totally different.

Private-feeling 4th floor hall
Gogikkun Kimchunbae, a Gangnam Station favorite — 4th floor

The 4th floor feels a bit more private and quiet. The 3rd floor felt right for a lively, buzzing group hangout, while the 4th floor seemed better for a group that wants to eat and chat quietly.

Private rooms for groups of 3 to 12

There are also separate rooms, so if you want a quiet group gathering, booking a room is a good idea. (A room fee applies — check the Naver reservation page.) For reference, this Gangnam Station BBQ restaurant that's great for group gatherings takes room bookings from a minimum of 3 up to a maximum of 12 people, so keep that in mind when booking on Naver!

Table set with 4 dipping sauces and side dishes

Four dipping sauces and the side dishes

Four different dipping sauces to enjoy with the meat in various ways, plus generous side dishes. I love BBQ restaurants with a good side dish lineup for enjoying meat in different ways, so the table setup won me over right away.

What comes in the Chunbae Couple Set, plus half-price pork skin

Chunbae Couple Set: skirt steak (tosisal) / rib finger meat (bongalbisal) / pork belly (ogyeopsal), pork skin add-on, beef doenjang jjigae, rice

At Gogikkun Kimchunbae, ordering the Chunbae Couple Set lets you add pork skin at half price. I already love pork skin, so I added it right away.

One thing about this Gangnam Station favorite Gogikkun Kimchunbae: the staff grill everything for you from start to finish, so you just get to sit back and eat the perfectly grilled meat! Great for anyone whose charcoal-grilling skills aren't quite there yet — you still get to enjoy well-grilled meat with no effort.

Meat grilling over a charcoal fire

While the meat was grilling, I read through their 'how to eat it deliciously' guide in full. I'm the type who always reads and follows these guides at any restaurant, and it really did pair perfectly with the meat.

Tosisal (skirt steak) with Maldon salt

Dip the well-grilled tosisal into Maldon salt. The meat had such a deep flavor that it really felt like eating proper meat — this Gangnam Station favorite Gogikkun Kimchunbae.

A piece of tosisal dipped in Maldon salt

This wasn't in the 'how to eat it deliciously' guide, but if you personally love myeongran (salted pollock roe), you'll love this combo! It's a sauce mixing myeongran, green onion, and garlic, and I felt it went really well with the beef. It's also great just piled on plain rice.

You can really tell fresh, high-quality meat apart just by its color...

Bongalbisal (rib finger meat) with myeongi namul

The clean, tender bongalbisal (rib finger meat) also gets fully grilled and set aside for you like this.

Myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves) + Maldon salt + wasabi combo — need I say more.

Ogyeopsal (pork belly) with hairtail intestine jeotgal

I thought only the beef would be delicious, but the ogyeopsal (pork belly) had such great texture too. When it was time to grill the ogyeopsal, they offered free galchi sokjeot (hairtail intestine jeotgal) and asked if I'd like some — I took it without much expectation, but it paired so well that I kept dipping the pork belly in it the whole time.

Thick pork skin grilled for you at the table

You could tell how seriously the grill staff took it — they even pressed the pork skin evenly on both sides with tongs to make sure it cooked through. Such a nice touch...

Thick grilled pork skin

This was thicker and had better texture than pork skin I've had at other BBQ restaurants — this Gangnam Station favorite Gogikkun Kimchunbae. If you're looking for a Gangnam Station BBQ restaurant that grills the meat for you, or a place for a group gathering, don't hesitate — go check out Gogikkun Kimchunbae!
