Aewol noodle shop for three: two large bowls, impulse sundae, Handam
In short
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a pork noodle restaurant near Handam Beach in Aewol, Jeju. Three diners shared a large bone broth pork noodle bowl, a large dongchimi (radish water kimchi) bibim noodle bowl and chive pork sundae (Korean sausage), ordered on impulse after reading its description, all while looking out at the sea. The mild bone broth with a pinch of pepper and the generously filled sundae were the highlights. For a filling, not-too-spicy lunch on a Jeju trip, Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a good fit.

What did three of us order at Handam Guksu?
Here is what the three of us ordered at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch.
- Large bone broth pork noodles (사골 고기국수)
- Large dongchimi bibim noodles (동치미 비빔국수, mixed noodles with radish water kimchi)
- Chive pork sundae (부추고기순대, Korean blood sausage-style stuffed sausage)

The chive pork sundae wasn't in our plan at all, but the menu described it as "sundae packed with chives and pork" and I got curious, so we added it!

Can you see the sea from Handam Guksu?
At Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch we could see the sea out front and lush greenery to the side! While waiting for the food I looked around the restaurant, and being able to see the ocean while eating was lovely 🌊

Side dishes and the self-serve bar
The side dish at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch was pickled dried radish strips (무말랭이 장아찌), and there was a self-serve bar too, so we could take as much as we needed.

Finally the food all came out at once, and maybe because we ordered large bowls, the portions were quite generous overall!!

How is the large bone broth pork noodle bowl? Try adding pepper

The bone broth pork noodles at Handam Guksu had a rich broth that wasn't harsh, just clean-tasting, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy. The staff recommended adding a little pepper to the pork noodles. I tried the meat on its own first, and it was tender!

I ate it plain at first, then added pepper partway through, and the flavor really came alive. Overall it was a mild, clean style.

I ate the meat and noodles together, and the combination was great, as expected.
How spicy is the large dongchimi bibim noodle bowl?

The dongchimi bibim noodles at Handam Guksu were only slightly spicy. They came with a variety of toppings, including bean sprouts, cucumber and meat, and went well with the vegetables.

I mixed in a little broth at a time, so it stayed easy to eat to the end, and the broth served with the bibim noodles was clean-tasting enough to drink on its own too!

The meat from the pork noodles also went well eaten together with the bibim noodles.

The portion was big and filling, and it paired nicely with the pork noodles.
Is the chive pork sundae worth ordering on impulse?

The chive pork sundae at Handam Guksu was lightly charred on the outside and packed full inside, which I loved!

With chives and meat inside, it tasted a bit lighter than regular sundae. It was even better than I expected, so delicious ☺️
