Gangneung breakfast Korean set meal, 14,000 won: Saimdang Bueok

Saimdang Bueok is a Korean set meal (hanjeongsik) and home-style rice restaurant on Jukheon-gil, near Ojukheon in Gangneung, Gangwon. Arriving early in the morning, the writer ordered the Ojukheon Hansang set at 14,000 won per person, which came with 8 basic side dishes plus grilled fish and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew); the fish had no fishy smell and the stew tasted homemade, so the rice kept disappearing. Even a diner who doesn't usually go for Korean food finished a full bowl at Saimdang Bueok.

Gangneung café at sunset for passionfruit ade: Baegya Coffee

Baegya Coffee is a large ocean-view bakery café on the coastal road right in front of Gyeongpo Beach and Sacheonjin Beach in Gangneung, with four floors including a rooftop. Arriving at sunset straight from the beach, the writer ordered Baegya Coffee's signature oksigi corn ice cream, a warm milk tea and a passionfruit ade; much of the bakery had sold out by that hour, but the seating layout still gave sea views from the inner tables. It is a Gangneung ocean-view café with plenty of choices even in the evening, when coffee feels too heavy.
