One dessert you absolutely have to eat on a Gangneung trip is gelato!
Gangneung is especially known for unusual flavors you can only find here, like sundubu (soft tofu) gelato, so this time I made a point of hunting down a gelato café near Gangneung Central Market.

What flavors are in the Hi Gelato showcase?
Hi Gelato, the gelato spot near Gangneung Central Market, serves a wide range of gelato flavors alongside its signature menu. Walking in, the showcase was lined with all kinds of flavors — so many that it was fun just browsing!

From familiar flavors to ones made with unusual ingredients, there was so much variety it was genuinely hard to choose hahaha. This is a place I want to come back to and try one by one.

By the way, there's a review event running right now, so make sure to grab the free size-up. There's also a discount for Instagram reviews — don't miss it!!!

Hi Gelato's signature menu and how to choose a size
The Hi Gelato signature menu adds compote and toppings to the gelato for something a bit more special, so I really wanted to try it. Just a note — the number of flavors you can choose for the regular showcase gelato varies by size.

What is the Hi Gelato shop like inside?
Inside, Hi Gelato is cozy and casual, an easy place to drop into for gelato without any fuss! It's a great spot to stop by lightly after a meal during a Gangneung trip, or when you want something different from the usual cafés near Gangneung Central Market. Even after eating a full meal, cool and chewy gelato always finds room haha.

They scoop the gelato right when you order, and they gently added a taste spoon too — I was so grateful!! The owner was also really kind, which made me happy haha.

The Hi Gelato signature: ricotta blueberry with compote
What I ordered this time was the Hi Gelato signature. The ricotta blueberry gelato paired the blueberry flavor with a nutty, savory note so well — genuinely delicious!!! Adding the blueberry compote upgraded it even further with a sweet-tart layer.

Personally, this signature menu was really my favorite. Since the gelato-and-compote pairing apparently changes with the season, I'm already looking forward to coming back to Hi Gelato near Gangneung Central Market.

How do the soft tofu and corn gelato taste?
I also ordered a single cup of the sundubu (soft tofu) gelato, a must-eat dessert on any Gangneung trip! The tofu flavor came through stronger than I expected — genuinely tasted like real tofu, which made it a standout at this gelato spot near Gangneung Central Market. Its nutty, clean flavor was clearly different from milk-based ice cream, and the subtle sweetness paired nicely with the smooth texture.

For my taste spoon, I picked corn gelato, and it was also amazing! If you're looking for an unusual dessert you can only find in Gangneung, Hi Gelato is worth a visit at least once.

Hi Gelato as a stop before or after Gangneung Central Market
Best of all, Hi Gelato sits right near Gangneung Central Market, making it easy to stop by before or after browsing the market. While traveling around Gangneung you'll likely eat your way through the market's food stalls too, so finishing off with sweet gelato is a great way to round out the day. People always say sundubu gelato and corn gelato are must-tries when you visit Gangneung — after trying them myself, I finally get why they're considered essential on a Gangneung trip!
If you're planning a trip to Gangneung, stop by Hi Gelato near Central Market, browse the many flavors, and enjoy a sweet moment with the signature Hi Gelato or the sundubu gelato!
