Dongtan Korean restaurant: moist egg roll over duruchigi, Yangpuni

In short

Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a Korean restaurant in Bansong-dong, Dongtan (Hwaseong, Gyeonggi) serving kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), kimchi jjim (braised kimchi), duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork) and samgyeopsal (pork belly). The writer ordered the duruchigi and egg roll set and found the duruchigi's familiar spicy-sweet sauce solid but unremarkable, while the thick, moist gyeran-mari (rolled omelet) was the real favorite. At Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal, the egg roll is what makes the duruchigi set memorable.

Today I'm sharing a hearty meal I had at a Bansong-dong restaurant in Dongtan: Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal (양푼이김치찌개&삼겹살)! 😋

Where is Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal in Dongtan, and what are the hours and parking?

Yangpuni is at 36-13 Dongtanbansong 3-gil, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, on the 1st floor, and it's open daily from 11:00 to 23:00. Break time is 15:00-16:00, and last order is at 22:30. They also do delivery, and there's parking for 4 cars in front.

Parking in front of the shop, and there's a public parking lot too! With so many menu options, it's a good place to go when you can't decide what to eat, haha.

How does the duruchigi taste in Yangpuni's duruchigi and egg roll set?

What I ordered at Yangpuni this day was the duruchigi and egg roll set. Spicy-sweet duruchigi plus soft egg roll (gyeran-mari) together? Hearty from the combo alone!

I tried the duruchigi first! It was stir-fried in a spicy-sweet sauce that any Korean would find familiar. The sweet and spicy flavors blended well, so it goes nicely with rice.

With a sauce like this, it's great to put the meat over white rice or mix the sauce into the rice, right? It made a solid, filling meal 🍚

Where Yangpuni's duruchigi falls a little short

Personally, though, the duruchigi at Yangpuni didn't taste especially special. The flavor was familiar, so it was easy to eat, but I think it would have been better with a bit more depth of savory flavor or more of the meat's own richness!

Still, on a day when you crave a spicy-sweet meat dish, it's worth trying once. I especially liked that the set comes with egg roll, so you can alternate between two flavors.

The thick, moist egg roll: the best part of the set

What I enjoyed most in the duruchigi and egg roll set was the egg roll! Yangpuni's egg roll isn't the thin kind; it's made thick, so it looked appetizing too. One bite and it wasn't dry at all, with a moist, soft texture that I loved.

Egg roll texture really varies depending on how it's made, doesn't it? Overcook it and it gets dry easily, but Yangpuni's egg roll kept its moist texture, which I was happy with.

Nutty, mild egg roll

It was nutty and mild, so it was a perfect match for the spicy-sweet duruchigi! A bite of duruchigi followed by a bite of egg roll softens the heat, and the combination worked quite well 🥰 Spicy food really does need a soft egg dish. Personally, I liked the egg roll even more than the duruchigi!

What else does Yangpuni serve, and does it deliver?

The variety of the menu is another plus at Yangpuni. Besides the duruchigi and egg roll I ate, they have kimchi stew, kimchi jjim, pork belly and more!

On a day when you want hot, spicy broth, kimchi stew sounds good, and if you want well-fermented kimchi and generous meat, kimchi jjim would be a fine choice, right? And when you're craving meat, you can pick pork belly, so it's easy to choose according to your taste.

Finishing the meal at Yangpuni

With such a range of Korean dishes, it's a place I'd think of for eating solo or whenever I want a filling meal. I also saw lots of delivery orders, not just people dining in! I thought it would be handy on days when you'd like to eat comfortably at home 🏠💕

Choosing delivery every time can be a real dilemma, but Yangpuni sells everything from kimchi stew to meat dishes, so I think the many choices are a plus.
