Dongtan Chinese restaurant: level 3 spicy jjamppong rice, Bultina
In short
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch (불티나꼬막짬뽕 동탄남광장점) is a jjamppong (spicy Korean-Chinese seafood soup) restaurant on Nojak-ro in Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, where diners choose their spice level. At lunch the writer had level 3 jjamppong rice, said to be a bit hotter than Buldak fire noodles, and a small old-style tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) with thick-cut meat; the jjamppong rice also came with plenty of noodles, making it a generous portion. Bultina's level 3 jjamppong rice is a fiery, satisfying meal worth recommending to anyone who loves spicy jjamppong.

How spicy is level 3 jjamppong rice?
At Bultina Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch I ordered level 3 jjamppong rice (spicy seafood noodle soup served with rice) and a small tangsuyuk (Korean sweet and sour pork). I usually like spicy food, so this time I really wanted to feel the heat. After eating, I understood why people who love spicy jjamppong come here, haha
Before ordering I checked the spice levels, and I hesitated a little when I heard level 3 is a bit hotter than Buldak ramen, lol. Level 4 is supposedly almost too hot for people to eat, so I figured I'd regret it and played it safe with level 3.

Lunchtime wait
We came at lunchtime, and right after we arrived, a line formed…! It's really popular.

A sharp, refreshing level 3 broth
The heat of the level 3 broth hit me with the very first spoonful. It's seriously spicy!! My mouth went numb with the heat, but it wasn't a heavy, stuffy kind of spicy. It was sharp and clean, so I kept going back for more.

If you're looking for a good jjamppong place in Dongtan and want a fiery broth, I think you'll be satisfied. It's especially worth a try for people who love spicy food.

Does the jjamppong rice come with noodles?
Bultina's jjamppong rice comes with noodles as well as rice! The menu said only a few noodles are included, but when I ate it, I was surprised at how generous the portion of noodles was. I ate the noodles first, then put the rice in the broth, and it was a really hearty meal.
One bowl left me full, and I never thought the portion was too small. That said, the heat is fairly strong, so if you're not good with spicy food, I'd recommend not ordering a high level from the start!

Is it good as a hangover meal in Dongtan?
The jjamppong rice at Bultina Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch has a fiery broth and a kick that keeps you eating. You know those days after drinking, or when you're stressed and crave spicy food? I think on days like that, the hot broth would really settle your stomach. So I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a hangover meal in Dongtan too.
If you often eat spicy jjamppong, you could add this to your list when searching for a place that does jjamppong well. I was satisfied with the generous portion and the intense heat.

What style is the small tangsuyuk?
Bultina's tangsuyuk felt like nostalgic old-style tangsuyuk rather than the trendy kind. I didn't want to stop at jjamppong, so I ordered a small tangsuyuk too!

Best of all, the pork was thick-cut. It wasn't just a thick batter; you could really feel the texture of the meat, and it tasted nutty the more I chewed. If you like the familiar tangsuyuk from old-school Chinese restaurants, I think you'll enjoy it.

Spicy jjamppong rice with tangsuyuk
Taking a bite of tangsuyuk while eating the spicy jjamppong rice is a really good combination. It calms the heat for a moment, and I was glad I'd ordered both.

Who is Bultina Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch for?
Bultina Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch was a good place to visit on a day you crave spicy food. The jjamppong rice came with both noodles and rice, so the portion was generous, and it's quite spicy from level 3, so I especially recommend it to people who love heat.
Add the thick old-style tangsuyuk and it's a hearty meal! If you're looking for a good jjamppong place in Dongtan, or want to blow off stress with a fiery broth, give it a visit.
