Is Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store worth visiting for gifts?
Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store (속초불탄감자빵 본점) is a bakery café in Sokcho that is open daily 09:00-17:00 and takes groups and parking. I went while looking for something special to give friends as gifts during my Sokcho trip.

I expected a dessert you can only get in Sokcho, and it was even more novel and satisfying than I thought (・﹃・)

Parking and the Ulsan Rock view
The parking lot is huge, so it was really easy to come by car. Plenty of places in Sokcho stress you out over parking, but here I parked in a relaxed way, and you can see Ulsan Rock (Ulsanbawi) from the lot, so it's basically an Ulsan Rock café. On a nice day, just standing there for a moment felt healing ..(🫶🏻︎'-')

Graffiti exterior and a wood-toned interior
The first thing I noticed on arrival was the colorful graffiti exterior. Cute characters cover the whole building, so you can spot it from far away, and it works as a photo zone for your Sokcho trip snaps!

The inside has a totally different mood from the outside. Warm wood tones plus plants made it feel like a cozy café, and it was spacious and pleasant.

One side has a cutely decorated explanation of potatoes and squid ink, which is fun to look at while you wait. The bread is made from squid and potato, both famous in Gangwon-do, and since squid ink and potato are both full of good nutrients, it's a bread you can eat with a clear conscience, haha

I snapped the origin-of-ingredients sign because it cracked me up: it says "staff: 100% domestic." I'd seen a lot of foreign workers around Sokcho, but this bakery had only Korean staff.

A space to warm up your bread right after buying
Another thing I liked: there's an area where you can warm your bread up. You can heat it right after buying, so it tastes even better, like it just came out of the oven. I bought mine as gifts, but I think it would be great eaten on the spot too ( '﹃' * )

Potato bread and Mustoy ceramic dolls in the showcase
The showcase had potato bread and Mustoys (무스토이) cutely displayed. Eating bread on your Sokcho trip, making your own little ceramic doll, a Mustoy, and taking it home sounds like a new memory in the making~

Can you taste before you buy?
There's a separate sample area, so you can taste before buying. On a first visit it can be hard to decide how many to get, so being able to try and then choose felt great.

Buying the 4-piece potato bread set and 10-piece jjondeugi set, and how to reheat
I bought a 4-piece potato bread set and a 10-piece Sokcho jjondeugi set! The 4-piece gift set comes in a yellow, potato-evoking package. The eating instructions are written out in detail, so freezing it at home and eating it again was no trouble (˶• ﻌ •˶)
- Heat for 20 seconds after thawing naturally for a chewy texture
- For frozen bread, microwave 30 seconds, flip, then add 20 more seconds and you're done

Does Bultan Gamja Bread deliver?
Yes, courier delivery is available, so you can enjoy it at home again without going back to Sokcho. You don't have to lug a heavy load, and it's perfect for sending gifts straight to friends.

How does the potato bread taste?
The bread looks black because of the squid ink. Inside the squid ink bread is a soft, sweet potato filling packed to the brim, so it tastes plain yet nutty, and it's so generously filled that one makes you properly full.

Comparing the three jjondeugi flavors
The Sokcho jjondeugi came in three flavors that represent Sokcho: red crab, chicken gangjeong and squid. Each has a distinct personality, which made them fun to eat, and they were funny and cute as gifts for people around me (ง*`˘´*)ว

The packaging is straightforward but way too cute. They're an easy, no-pressure travel gift. I think they'd be even better lightly grilled, and they're the best beer snacks! Each flavor differs in spiciness and savoriness, so picking among them is fun.

Overall verdict on Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store
If you're looking for a special dessert in Sokcho, this is worth a visit! A big parking lot, an Ulsan Rock view, a cute, kitschy exterior and a thoughtfully set up sample area made it a satisfying spot for Sokcho souvenirs or gifts.
