Weekend Gwangalli Korean BBQ, beef galbi set for 3: Haean Sutbul
In short
Haean Sutbul Galbi Gwangalli Main Branch (해안숯불갈비 광안리 본점) is a charcoal-grill galbi (Korean BBQ ribs) restaurant on Namcheonbada-ro in Suyeong, Busan, specializing in marinated beef and pork ribs. On a weekend Busan trip, a Naver reservation meant no wait, and the beef galbi set for 3 was grilled over low charcoal with potatoes and mushrooms, then paired with kimchi stew. Haean Sutbul Galbi's marinated beef galbi wins with a sweet-salty marinade that isn't too sweet and chewy meat clinging to the bone.

What is Haean Sutbul Galbi Gwangalli Main Branch like?
Haean Sutbul Galbi Gwangalli Main Branch (해안숯불갈비 광안리 본점) is a Gwangalli BBQ place whose main dishes are classic marinated beef galbi (short ribs) and top-grade chilled marinated pork galbi. I figured that on a trip to Busan I had to eat galbi, so I came here, and as a signature Gwangalli meat restaurant it's a no-fail pick.

Could we get in without a wait on the weekend?
It was a weekend and the place was really packed, but I had booked ahead on Naver, so we walked straight in with no wait~ It wasn't far from our accommodation either, and we strolled along Gwangalli Beach and arrived before we knew it.

I heard Haean Sutbul Galbi insists on domestic top-grade chilled meat only. You get a luxurious, chewy galbi experience, so I really recommend stopping by when you visit Busan!

Atmosphere and seating
The inside of Haean Sutbul Galbi Gwangalli Main Branch is a clean BBQ restaurant with a retro feel. There are tables for 6, so it's good for visiting with family, and the private space in the back made it a comfortable place to eat.

You can feel their pride in the meat at this Gwangalli restaurant. They even suggest a recommended combination, so if you just follow it, you'll enjoy the meat at its best.

There's also a Naver receipt review event, so do take part!
They brought us spoons and chopsticks sterilized in hot water. You can tell the restaurant is kept clean.

What's on the menu, and what are the ordering rules?
The signature items at Haean Sutbul Galbi Gwangalli Main Branch are pork galbi, beef galbi and raw galbi, and for meals there are several kinds of stew. The first order has to be 3 servings or more, so we went with a set menu.

Basic side dishes
The basic side dishes are set out neatly as soon as you order, and they all went well with the meat.

- Lettuce wraps, spring onion salad, radish salad, white kimchi
- Salad, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), 3 kinds of sauce, ssamjang (wrap paste) and more
- If you run short on a side dish, just add more through the table order!

How do you grill the marinated beef galbi?
I heard the marinated beef galbi here tastes best grilled gently over weak charcoal, so I adjusted the heat as I went. The 3 servings of beef galbi arrived with the marinade soaked in deeply, and it looked delicious.

The meat quality was obvious at a glance, so I was really looking forward to it.

They also gave us thin potato slices and mushrooms to grill alongside. Since marinated beef galbi can burn quickly over charcoal, it's important to flip it and grill it slowly so neither side burns.

How did the beef galbi taste?
The marinated beef galbi here isn't just sweet like some charcoal galbi. It's an appealing sweet-and-salty beef galbi. Biting into a well-cooked piece, the marinade had soaked in deeply for a rich flavor, and eaten with the side dishes it was the best ㅠㅠ

Wrapping it in lettuce toned the marinade down a little and made it taste even better. Because they use domestic top-grade chilled meat, you can definitely feel the difference. Next time I'd like to try the raw galbi too.

Kimchi stew with the beef galbi
After all that sweet-salty galbi I craved something spicy, so I ordered the kimchi stew~ It was loaded with meat and kimchi and the broth was super rich, totally hitting the spot for Korean tastes,,

You know meat on the bone is the real deal, right?? The meat, with its thick-cut rib feel, was much chewier haha. If you're looking for a meat restaurant near Gwangalli Beach, I recommend Haean Sutbul Galbi Gwangalli Main Branch, a beef galbi spot.
