This is the day my "triangle gimbap (rice ball)" head turned into the bob of my life at Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch (어맥헤어프로젝트 첨단점), a hair salon in Cheomdan. It's the story of designer Suyeon giving my hair CPR.

Summer is coming and my old hair looked so much like a triangle gimbap that I wanted to fix it fast, but finding a salon I liked was hard. Then I found Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch, where I was happy with the price, the skill and the service, so here's my review of the bob volume magic (a Korean heat-straightening perm that keeps natural volume) I got there!!

Honestly, parking is one of those quietly stressful things about going to a salon. Getting your hair done takes 2–3 hours at the very least, and if you're worried about overstaying or getting a call to move your car, you can't focus on the treatment. But Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch has parking inside the building, so it was so easy. Being able to visit without worrying about parking was a pretty big plus.

What's the atmosphere like? A café-like salon in Cheomdan

Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch has a spacious, clean, stylish interior, so it feels like a café the moment you walk in. The ceilings are high and the seats are spaced far apart.

The first thing I thought when I walked in was "Huh? Isn't this a café?" ☕✨ You usually picture a hair salon as noisy and chaotic, but this place is spacious and clean, and the stylish interior is so pretty.

With the high ceiling and wide spacing between seats, nothing felt stuffy at all. I came to get my hair done, but it felt like I'd come to hang out at a café.

Locker room

When you arrive, they confirm your reservation, and you store your bag and belongings in the locker room, then change into a gown and come out. They even put a diffuser in the locker room, which is a thoughtful touch.

What kind of place is Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch?

It turns out Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch is run by the head director, a "Cheomdan guardian" who has stayed in Cheomdan for over 10 years, since the days of Park Seung-chul Hair Studio's Cheomdan branch. I heard it's thanks to close bonds with clients that they run Eomaek Hair like this.

Eomaek Hair is really good at offering convenience through up-to-date equipment. The salon chairs have fold-out tables, so you can drink your beverage comfortably and prop up your phone freely, which was really handy.

I also heard their heat-treatment equipment is the latest model with high output, giving maximum effect in less time, so I figured it would be gentler on my hair.

How was the bob consultation with designer Suyeon?

At Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch, designer Suyeon looked at my face shape, neckline and the leftover perm, and recommended a chin-length bob without bangs. I booked because I was looking for someone good at bob cuts, and it turned out to be a really satisfying choice.

I truly believe the cut is everything with a bob. Even a 1cm difference in length changes the whole feel, and depending on how the thinning is done, hair can look light or heavy. At the consultation I showed her my current hair and told her this:

• "I still have a C-curl perm in my hair and I'm a bit sick of it."
• "Overall it looks like a triangle gimbap, so I want a calm, neat bob."
• "I don't want it too short, and I'd like it clean."

After I said that, designer Suyeon gave me a really thorough consultation.

She looked at my face shape, neckline and the current state of the leftover perm, and recommended this:

• No need to add bangs.
• Cutting to around chin length would look best.
• Thin it out moderately so it doesn't look heavy.

She didn't just take the style I wanted and go ahead; she explained things taking my face shape and current hair condition into account, which made me trust her.

How much did the Cheomdan bob volume magic cost?

The bob volume magic at Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch cost ₩108,000. My hair is a length with no extra charge, so I paid the basic volume magic price with no additional cost.

These days many salons add unexpected charges, but they explained the price clearly beforehand, so I could go ahead without worry.

Drinks during the treatment

They also prepare a drink partway through the treatment, and the coffee is seriously good ☕❤️ I assumed a complimentary drink would just be a cup of something, but this coffee tastes like it's from a café. Sitting back with a cup of coffee, it really felt like getting my hair done at a café.

Automatic shampoo bed

The shampoo area at Eomaek Hair in Cheomdan uses automatic shampoo beds designed to reduce the neck pain you get from lying back for a long time, so you can comfortably have your shampoo and head spa. The products aren't harsh either, so the shampoo doesn't smell strongly, which I really liked.

What was the bob volume magic process, and the result?

Designer Suyeon's bob volume magic was done by dividing the hair into small sections and working delicately, thinning only where needed. Even I, just watching, was amazed.

With a bob especially, the volume can't be too flat, and if it puffs up too much it looks worse. She got that balance really right.

And what I liked most was the thinning. Usually when you thin a lot, the hair gets lighter but the ends can puff up over time. But designer Suyeon thinned only where needed, so the overall line stayed clean and the weight was reduced naturally.

When it was done and I looked in the mirror, I was truly amazed. "Is this really the same hair?" came out on its own. The triangle gimbap bob was gone, completely transformed into a clean, sleek bob ✨ The ends are calmly tidy, the volume is naturally alive, and my face looks much smaller!

Best of all, it looks natural, not overdone, as if my hair had always been this good. It's exactly the neat, clean bob I wanted.

I felt all over again that hair really changes a person's impression. Before, my hair bothered me every time I looked in the mirror, but now just looking at my hair makes me happy 😊 (Honestly, I didn't like my "after" photo at all, so I couldn't post it!!! 😂)
