Wangchang Jokbal is a jokbal (braised pork trotter) restaurant in Sunae-dong, Seongnam, 260m from Sunae Station Exit 1. On a Monday visit at 6:30pm, the large Wangchang Original Jokbal came with jaengban makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles on a platter, 15,000 won), plus complimentary steamed egg and spicy salted oysters, and the jokbal was tender with no gamey smell. Wangchang Jokbal is an easy pick for jokbal and a plate of noodles after work.

Gwangyang summer stamina eel restaurant, 600g for two: Deokeun Jangeo

Deokeun Jangeo Gwangyang Branch is a charcoal-grilled eel restaurant on Hangman 9-ro in Gwangyang, Jeollanam-do, where guests pick their own cleaned eel on the first floor and grill it over charcoal on the second. On a summer holiday visit, two people chose 600g (about two eels) for around 35,000 won plus a 4,000 won per-person table charge, and the myeongi (wild garlic leaves), green onion kimchi and spicy sauce kept every bite from feeling heavy. With a large dining room and easy parking, Deokeun Jangeo is a dependable Gwangyang stamina-food spot for a family gathering or a meal out with parents.

Seoul ramen near Children's Grand Park Station: chili gyudon, Mentsuru

Mentsuru Children's Grand Park Branch is a Japanese ramen restaurant right in front of Exit 4 of Children's Grand Park Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. On a weekend visit at 7pm the writer ordered spicy shoyu ramen with extra pork belly, gyudon (beef rice bowl) with extra cheongyang chili, and takoyaki, and rated the clean clam-and-chicken broth and the house-sauced gyudon highest. Mentsuru is an easy ramen dinner to pair with a walk through Children's Grand Park afterwards.
