Where I had a tonkotsu ramen lunch near Bucheon Station
I wanted tonkotsu ramen near Bucheon Station, so I picked Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch (교레츠라멘 부천대점), near Bucheon University. I hadn't been over by Bucheon Station in a while, and after running my errands it was lunchtime. While searching for somewhere to eat, I realized I'd really been craving ramen lately 🍜 Specifically rich, savory tonkotsu, so I headed to Gyeoretsu.

Outside and inside Gyeoretsu Ramen

The white sign with Japanese lettering gives the place a real Japanese ramen shop feel. The ramen and side menus are posted at the entrance too, so you can look them over before going in.

A cute wood-toned sign greets you at the door.

Can you eat alone? Bar seats and tables
The shop has both bar seats and tables, so it works for solo meals and for groups. Inside, it was cleaner than I expected, with a wood-toned feel 🤎 The bar seats make it easy to come for ramen alone, and the tables looked fine for going with several people 😀

It's an open kitchen, so you can watch the cooking in real time, which is fun.

Pictures and little props related to Japanese ramen are dotted around, giving it that Japanese ramen shop atmosphere ❤️
What's in the self-serve corner?

The self-serve corner has sauce, spicy mustard-leaf pickles, pickled ginger, white pickled radish (danmuji) and minced garlic 😀
What I ordered at Gyeoretsu Ramen

My order was tonkotsu ramen (extra noodles + extra chashu), chicken karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken) and fried jumbo gyoza. Gyeoretsu has a lot of ramen types, but since I came craving tonkotsu, I chose it without a second thought, haha.
- Tonkotsu ramen + extra noodles + extra chashu
- Chicken karaage
- Fried jumbo gyoza

I didn't want to stop at just ramen, so I ordered two sides too 😋
What does tonkotsu ramen look like with extra noodles and chashu?

When you add chashu (braised pork slices) to the tonkotsu ramen here, they fill the whole rim of the bowl in a circle. It looked overwhelming from the start, and with the extra chashu it bloomed like a flower 😀
The creamy white broth holds noodles, scallions, wood ear mushrooms and menma (bamboo shoots), with a sheet of nori on top.

The menu says noodles come firm by default, and that chewy bite goes well with the broth 😋 With the extra noodles, the portion was generous too.

The tender chashu paired nicely with the rich tonkotsu broth 😋🤎
The tonkotsu broth here isn't too light and has that nutty, savory tonkotsu flavor. It was the savory, rich broth I was craving, so I loved it.
Side dishes: chicken karaage and fried jumbo gyoza

Chicken karaage

The chicken karaage is crisp outside and bite-sized, so it's easy to eat alongside ramen.
Dipped in mayo sauce, it's twice as savory 🤍 A sip of ramen broth, a piece of karaage, back to the ramen, haha. Eating it this way, they go together better than you'd think.
Fried jumbo gyoza

The fried jumbo gyoza comes out golden, like a dumpling that's crisp outside and juicy inside.
A light dip in soy sauce keeps it clean and mild, which makes it a good side.

With the karaage and gyoza too, the ramen and sides together made a really filling meal 😋
