Seongsu Thai restaurant: rice noodle set and mu thod curry, Thanon55
In short
Thanon55 is a Thai restaurant on Ttukseom-ro 9-gil near Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. The writer ordered the Thai rice noodle and shrimp fried rice set plus Thanon55's best-selling mu thod curry (S), crispy fried pork with curry sauce, and liked that the noodle soup comes with meat, fish cake and shrimp, with extra bean sprouts added free on request. Even a friend who usually struggles with rice noodles ate happily, making Thanon55 a home-style Thai meal that suits Korean tastes.

Looking for Thai food near Seongsu Station? You don't need to fly to Thailand! The moment you open the door, the local Thai feel is right there. From the atmosphere to the food, it feels like a trip abroad, and I came away with home-style flavors that suit Korean tastes well.

Thanon55 location and opening hours
Thanon55 is at 16 Dukseom-ro 9-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on the 1st floor, Unit 203. It is open 11:30–22:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00.
Thai rice noodle and shrimp fried rice set
At Thanon55 I ordered the Thai rice noodle and shrimp fried rice set for a hearty meal.

It's packed with crunchy bean sprouts too. The rich, deep broth goes well with the soft noodles, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy.

The meat wasn't dry and there was plenty of it, along with bean sprouts, cilantro and other ingredients, so the flavor felt full and rich.

There really are tons of bean sprouts, and they'll even give you extra for free. (That's another little happiness!)
Broth with both meat and seafood
There's fish cake like this, and shrimp too. The fish cake was soft and savory, and it made my mouth very happy.

The shrimp weren't fishy at all and tasted fresh. Sipping the broth right when you feel that springy shrimp bite is the best. Guys, I feel like I just visited a truly great restaurant near Seongsu Station. I'll definitely come back to eat again, so yummy!! But the best part was that seafood and meat are in the same bowl. That was my favorite thing about it.

How big is the shrimp fried rice portion?
The shrimp fried rice that came with it had springy shrimp and nicely loose, fluffy fried rice, and it paired well with the noodle soup. (The sauce on top reminded me of a fried egg with ketchup.) The portion seemed about one bowl of rice. Even this alone would probably fill you up, so I'd really recommend this set to big eaters, or to friends and couples visiting together.

The fried rice portion is quite generous and the set is satisfying as a full meal, so it's a good set even for people trying Thai food for the first time.
Best-seller: mu thod curry (S)
Another best-seller among Thai restaurants near Seongsu Station is mu thod curry (crispy fried pork with curry). I tried the best-selling mu thod curry (S) too. The curry was mild, and I liked it more because it carries the meaning of a traditional dish.

Crispy fried pork with smooth, rich Thai curry sauce gave me a sweet taste with a subtle spice aroma.

The pork stayed crispy outside and moist inside, which went well with the curry sauce, and eating them together was even better. It felt like getting several dishes out of one, so I thought it was good value.

It's really tasty with the savory chili sauce too.

Mu thod curry is good with rice and also works well shared with other dishes, a popular Thanon55 menu item. If you want to feel the local atmosphere of Thai food near Seongsu Station, it's worth ordering at least once.
Why even a friend who can't eat rice noodles enjoyed it
It felt like anything on the menu would be tasty. I went with no expectations and everything was delicious. It's like what a local would call a meal their mom made. I'm picky about rice noodles, but this place really suited my taste, so I ate well. My friend who came with me also doesn't eat rice noodles well, but said it was delicious and ate happily (^-^)/
I would have truly regretted not going. A hidden Seongsu gem and a genuinely great Thai restaurant near Seongsu Station: I recommend Thanon55.
