Suwon Vietnamese spot: bun cha noodles dipped in sauce, Madam Hao

In short

Madam Hao (마담하오) is a Vietnamese restaurant on Worldcup-ro 193beon-gil near Ajou University in Suwon, open until 3am, so it works as a lunch spot by day and a bar by night. The writer shared bun cha (13,000 won), brisket pho (11,000 won) and beef fried rice (12,000 won) with the kids, and Madam Hao's staff brought shrimp chips and children's tableware. Dipping the leftover bun cha noodles in the meaty sauce was addictive enough to make the writer want to return to Madam Hao.

I love pho so, so much, and I love Vietnamese food in general, so I went to a place I already want to revisit! This is Madam Hao, an Ajou University-area favorite where I had pho, bun cha and fried rice, and everything was so good.

Madam Hao's interior feels like a trip to Vietnam

The moment you walk in, the Vietnamese vibe of the interior hits you~ For a second I thought I was on a trip to Vietnam, haha. Now I really want to go! A Vietnam trip~~

Complimentary shrimp chips

Is Madam Hao good with kids? Shrimp chips and children's tableware

First they gave us shrimp chips? Crackers? The babies loved them and ate them up. One thing to note: there is only 1 high chair! We sat one kid in it and held the other while eating. The staff were kind to the kids and greeted them warmly, which we really appreciated :)

They also took good care of us with kids' tableware: a spoon, a fork and even a bowl.

What we ordered at Madam Hao and the prices

We ordered bun cha (₩13,000), brisket pho (₩11,000) and beef fried rice (₩12,000).

Madam Hao's bun cha: dip the leftover noodles in the sauce

The bun cha (grilled pork with rice noodles) came out first! I tried bun cha once before and decided it wasn't for me, okay?? But the bun cha at Madam Hao near Ajou University was different!!

Plated bun cha set at Madam Hao

Bun cha is a Vietnamese dish where you dip rice noodles, charcoal-grilled pork and vegetables in a sweet and sour sauce~ First, the plating was so pretty that it won me over.

Bun cha sauce bowl with charcoal-grilled pork

Thin pho-style rice noodles, small-cut lettuce, deliciously charcoal-grilled pork, and the sweet and sour sauce the pork sits in: eat them together and it's a party in your mouth!!!

The sauce was so good and the combination so great that this was my favorite dish :) My kid ate it really well too, maybe because the noodles are thin!

Bun cha noodles and meat dipped in the sauce

The noodles left over after the bun cha were amazing dipped in the sauce broth the meat came in!! Truly addictive.. I'll definitely eat this again next time!

Brisket pho with a broth kids can enjoy too

The second dish, brisket pho, had a light, clean broth that felt like it settled my stomach.

The broth was clean and well seasoned, so it was good for the kids too. My second one is a broth monster, and after one taste kept asking for more, haha.

Light brisket pho broth

There was a lot of thick-cut meat. It felt generous rather than skimpy, and the noodles were cooked just right, so it was a satisfying portion for a full meal.

Is siraegi (dried radish greens) the secret kick in the beef fried rice?

Last came the beef fried rice! This one has a kick too, haha.

Beef fried rice, the last dish to arrive

First, yellow rice? The rice is yellow, haha. It's topped with plenty of cucumber and beef, and the kick for me was what looked like siraegi (dried radish greens)!

Yellow fried rice topped with cucumber and beef

That's siraegi, right? Haha. With a siraegi-like vegetable mixed in, the texture came alive, it felt less greasy, and it was much tastier. Eating a piece of cucumber now and then resets your mouth, hehe.

Why I want to go back to Madam Hao

Maybe I just chose well, haha. Besides the pho, bun cha and beef fried rice, I now want to try other dishes at Madam Hao near Ajou University >< If you're craving Vietnamese food, do stop by. The taste was no-regrets :)
