Sunday lunch for four at Yeongjong Chinese restaurant Bongga Gyodong

Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is a Chinese restaurant with house-made noodles on the Eungol café street near Unseo Station in Yeongjong, Incheon. A family of four, parents included, visited on a Sunday afternoon and ordered Gangneung Chodang sundubu jjamppong rice (spicy seafood noodle soup with soft tofu, served with rice) for 12,000 won, Gyodong jjamppong for 10,000 won, small tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) for 19,000 won and jjajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce) for 8,000 won, and all four bowls were emptied. The father said he had never tried a combination like the sundubu jjamppong rice and finished every bite, which makes Bongga Gyodong Banjeom an easy pick for a family meal.

Sunday dinner at an Incheon pork BBQ: thick pork collar, Dwitgolmok

Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi Geomdan Main Branch is an aged Jeju pork BBQ restaurant in Dangha-dong, Incheon, 193m from Exit 3 of Wanjeong Station. On a Sunday evening four diners ordered two servings of aged Jeju special pork collar (160g), two of aged Jeju ddotgalbi pork ribs (180g) and the golmok doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) at 8,000 won, which came with two whole abalones plus shrimp and squid, while a staff member grilled everything over charcoal from start to finish. Even a guest who normally avoids pork collar agreed the thick-cut special collar is the dish to order at Dwitgolmok Ddotgalbi.

Gwangju Sangmu pasta with no reservation at 5pm Saturday: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is a brunch and pasta restaurant on Seogwangju-ro in Seo-gu, Gwangju, decorated like a Titanic ballroom. Two of us walked in at 5pm on a Saturday without a reservation and ordered truffle mushroom cream gnocchi for 22,000 won and shrimp anchovy oil pasta for 18,000 won from the kiosk at our table, and the savoury anchovy, al dente noodles and chewy, deeply truffled gnocchi were the highlights. With its own parking lot and baby chairs, Bueokgan Sangmu Branch suits dates, family meals and group gatherings alike.
