Yeonsinnae tonkatsu: triple katsu set too big to finish, Katsu Monster

Today I visited Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch, a Yeonsinnae favorite. The reviews for lunch there were really good!

What are the seats and atmosphere like at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch?

Inside there are three tables for two and bar-counter seats. The shop itself is small, which may be why a lot of people get takeout. Even though it's small, I liked that it was kept clean!

What did I order, and how long does cooking take?

I ordered the 1-person set (triple katsu + cold soba option). The notice above the kiosk said everything is cooked after you order, so it takes about 10 minutes. I'm noting it here in case you're really short on time!

What comes in the triple katsu 1-person set?

The 1-person set has cheese katsu, hire katsu (tenderloin cutlet), rosu katsu (loin cutlet) and cold soba (buckwheat noodles). Rice, pickled radish, cabbage salad and soup come with it too! The basic sides were good, so they were great to nibble on between bites. The cabbage salad comes with its own dressing, and eating it alongside refreshed my palate nicely. When the katsu arrives, they also give you the salad dressing and a bottle of katsu sauce!

Is the set's cold soba half a portion?

The cold soba in the set was honestly way bigger than I expected! At many places the noodles in a set come as about half a portion, but here it seemed like they give you a full single serving. It's summer, so the chill felt wonderful, and it went well with the katsu too haha

I took a close-up of the katsu too haha It looks so good, right!! The triple katsu came with 2 pieces of cheese katsu, 5 pieces of hire katsu and 5 pieces of rosu katsu.

Rosu, hire or cheese katsu: which was the best?

Rosu katsu: the best of the three

The rosu katsu here is sooo tender. Maybe because it had just come out, the coating was super crisp, and it bit through without any resistance, so delicious. The coating isn't thick and the meat is, so the chew was really satisfying. Since it's loin, there's a thin layer of fat that made it rich and tasty haha Personally, it was my favorite of the three katsu!

Hire katsu: so light you only need salt

The hire katsu is definitely less greasy, so it was light and juicy!! It was just as tender as the rosu katsu, and I liked how clean it tasted!! It's so mild that dipping it in just salt was really good.

Cheese katsu: stretchy but not heavy

As you can see in the photo, the cheese in the cheese katsu stretched like crazy. I worried it might get heavy as I ate, but it wasn't rich at all and I enjoyed it so much. You really do have to eat it before the cheese hardens. The outside is super crisp, and inside there's meat and cheese, so good haha

Can you finish the Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch 1-person set alone?

The 1-person set is really big, so even though I eat a lot, I ended up leaving a little! Because everything is cooked to order, I got freshly fried katsu, and the batter was really crisp and delicious. It's been a long time since I had katsu this satisfying!! If you're craving properly crisp, tasty katsu, I recommend ordering it~~
