In short
Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch is a sushi and sashimi restaurant in the heart of Jongno, Seoul, between Jongak and Gwanghwamun stations. On an early weekday evening the writer ordered the Geuksang sushi set (17 pieces, 33,000 won), the Choesang sushi set (16 pieces, 27,000 won) and cuttlefish sashimi (100g, 10,000 won), and found that only the Geuksang set adds red shrimp with sea urchin sushi and cuttlefish ankimo sushi. Premium sushi and sashimi made fresh every day
I went to try the Geuksang Sushi (극상초밥, Superior Set) and Choesang Sushi (최상초밥, Premium Set) at Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch, a sushi restaurant near Jongak Station. They say you can enjoy the deep flavor of aged sashimi, a variety of sushi, kaisendon (seafood rice bowl), and seasonal menus in a comfortable space.
I hadn't had really fresh, delicious sushi in a while, so I visited this Choe Uyeong Sushiya in Jongno. Fresh sushi at a reasonable price — perfect for solo dining, dates, family gatherings, or a meal with coworkers.

The storefront and entrance menu board on an early weekday evening
This sushi restaurant near Jongak Station has a wide range of fresh sushi and sashimi made with fresh ingredients. I visited for a slightly early weekday dinner.
It looked like it had opened not long ago, but word was already spreading. Nice to see premium sushi and sashimi at a reasonable, good-value price.

You can check the menu right from the entrance.

Solo seats, table seats and tablet ordering at Choe Uyeong Sushiya
This Choe Uyeong Sushiya in Jongno had a clean yet warm atmosphere. There are solo seats perfect for nearby office workers' lunch, and table seats for groups.
Choe Uyeong Sushiya is already famous in Yeouido, so I couldn't pass up trying it in Jongno too. I doubt there's another sushi and sashimi restaurant in Jongno offering this kind of value.

Every table has a tablet for easy ordering. The setup is clean and tidy.

What we ordered at Choe Uyeong Sushiya and what it cost
Geuksang Sushi (17pcs / ₩33,000), Choesang Sushi (16pcs / ₩27,000), cuttlefish sashimi (100g / ₩10,000).
From sashimi to rice bowls, sushi, sushi plates by price range, tempura, udon/sea bream stew, drinks, and extra menu items — there's a lot to choose from. We picked one Geuksang Sushi, one Choesang Sushi, and added the cuttlefish sashimi.

This sushi restaurant near Jongak Station is made with fresh ingredients. Fresh and with thick cuts of fish, it looked really appetizing.

A Jongno Japanese restaurant with good quality at a reasonable price. There's a reason it became a hit right after opening in Jongno, following its popularity in Yeouido.

Geuksang 17 pieces vs Choesang 16 pieces: what is the difference?
The Geuksang Sushi comes with 17 pieces. The difference from Choesang Sushi is one extra piece, plus red shrimp uni sushi (sea urchin roe) and cuttlefish ankimo sushi (monkfish-liver-style preparation).
I personally love both uni and ankimo, so this was a combination I couldn't skip. The sushi was glistening.

Even better dipped in the house-made soy sauce from Choe Uyeong Seafood set out on the table. The rice seasoning was just right and the fish was thick — right up my alley.
The Choesang Sushi comes with 16 pieces. Its quality was just as impressive as the Geuksang set.
Fresh flavor fills your mouth. Premium sushi at a reasonable price. It'd be great to order one set each and add extra pieces of whatever you like.

Choe Uyeong Sushiya was already well-known, so I visited trusting the reputation — and it exceeded expectations. Good quality at a reasonable price for this sushi restaurant near Jongak Station.

Cuttlefish sashimi, 100g for 10,000 won
Beautifully colored cuttlefish sashimi.

I love cuttlefish and this seemed like a light option to add on, so I ordered it. A squeeze of lemon plus the house-made soy sauce from Choe Uyeong Seafood and wasabi made it even better.

Soft yet chewy — an excellent texture. It came with a savory soup on the side too.
Is Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch worth a visit?
This sushi restaurant near Jongak Station exceeded expectations. I got to enjoy the quality Geuksang and Choesang sushi sets plus cuttlefish sashimi, all in generous portions.
A wide range of fresh sushi and sashimi made picking according to taste part of the fun. A clean space with good-quality sushi and sashimi, and takeout is available too, which makes it easy to enjoy anytime.
