Kitsune Yubu Daejeon Dunsan is a jumbo inari sushi (rice in seasoned tofu pouches) restaurant on the first floor of Daeduk Plaza in Dunsan-dong, near City Hall Station in Daejeon. The writer and his wife ordered the B set (sweet-salty beef and tuna mayo inari with spicy seafood udon, 13,000 won) and added a raw salmon inari for 3,800 won. The spicy seafood udon at Kitsune Yubu, with two crabs and two shrimp, has a deep broth, and the jumbo inari is so filling that one extra piece on top of the set is plenty.

Gung-dong Western eatery, Daejeon: chuck flap garlic pasta at Ciment

Ciment Chungnam National University Branch (씨멘트 충남대점) is a good-value Western restaurant in Gung-dong, Yuseong, Daejeon, right in front of Chungnam National University's main gate. On an early weekend lunch, the writer and his wife had the chuck flap garlic oil pasta (14,500 won), the spicy shrimp pilaf (10,500 won), the Ciment mini salad (3,500 won) and a pink grapefruit ade (4,000 won); the chuck flap was tender and the pilaf only gently spicy, mild enough even for people who can't handle heat. For generous ingredients for the price in Gung-dong, Ciment Chungnam National University Branch is a solid choice, though it has no dedicated parking lot.

Jeonju Hanok Village mulgalbi, front parking: Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi

Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi is a mulgalbi (Korean galbi hot pot) restaurant on Dongmun-gil in Jeonju Hanok Village, Jeonbuk. As the first meal of a Jeonju trip, the galbi hot pot set for two costs 44,000 won and includes galbi hot pot plus yukjeon (pan-fried beef pancake), and five cars fit in front of the restaurant, so there was no Hanok Village parking stress. Tender, well-seasoned galbi with already-seasoned yukjeon made a filling start to the trip.
