About

Sorori Cheongju cooks each pot of rice only after the order comes in, and the name Sorori comes from the Sorori rice seeds discovered in Sorori, Oksan-myeon. Sorori Cheongju uses Chungcheongbuk-do rice such as Oksan Sorori rice and Jincheon rice from Chungbuk, makes its pot-rice broth from kelp every morning, and prepares its braised short rib sauce in-house from ground vegetables and fruit. The sesame oil and perilla oil that Sorori Cheongju adds to its pot rice are traditionally pressed by a contracted local oil mill.

Sorori Cheongju serves pot rice made with different main ingredients — short rib, abalone, crab meat, Hanwoo beef large intestine, mackerel, cockles, pollock roe and freshwater eel — along with buckwheat gimbap. For the buckwheat gimbap at Sorori Cheongju, buckwheat noodles are boiled every morning and marinated in tsuyu before rolling; the salmon buckwheat gimbap uses salmon cured in-house, and the shrimp buckwheat gimbap is limited to 10 rolls a day. Sorori Cheongju also offers drinks to go with the meal, including bokbunja (Korean black raspberry) highball, Suntory highball and draft beer, and Sorori Cheongju is directly operated rather than franchised.
