Once inside, the whole place felt clean and pleasant! Most of the seats are 4-tops, so even the two of us could eat comfortably, and the restaurant itself is spacious enough that it never felt cramped.

One side of the restaurant has a retro-style decor area, so there was a bit of fun in looking around.

Self-serve corner: buckwheat tea, banchan refills, baby tableware

They also had baby chairs and baby tableware ready, which made it feel considerate toward families. The self-serve corner had everything from banchan (side dish) refills to buckwheat tea, plain rice, anchovy broth, baby tableware, spoons, forks, and cups, and there was even a microwave. It felt like a thoughtful setup for guests visiting with children!

Warm buckwheat tea poured from the self-serve corner

In particular, the buckwheat tea was kept warm, and I poured myself a cup — it was nutty and warming, nice to drink before the meal. The pairing of a pot rice restaurant with buckwheat tea worked really well haha.

Sorori pot rice menu and how kiosk ordering works

Kiosk for ordering placed at the table

Ordering is easy — just use the kiosk at each table. Looking through the menu slowly, there were more types of pot rice than I expected.

Alongside the signature galbi pot rice, there was abalone butter pot rice, freshwater eel pot rice, beef tripe pot rice, crab meat pot rice, mackerel pot rice, cockle pot rice, and pollack roe butter pot rice. Besides the main dishes, there was also buckwheat gimbap, futomaki, and shrimp buckwheat gimbap.

They were also running a Kakao Map/Naver review event. If you write a receipt review and take part, you get to draw a prize — anything from a Staub pot to meal vouchers to a free buckwheat gimbap order, so it's worth checking out if you visit! That day, we ordered the signature galbi pot rice and the summer special samgye pot rice.

What banchan comes with a Sorori pot rice meal?

First, the basic banchan lineup: butter, gim (seaweed), anchovy broth, mountain peppers, seasoned squid, and kkakdugi (radish kimchi) all came out together. It was a clean, well-matched set to go with the pot rice. The anchovy broth in particular had a rich yet clean flavor, good for a spoonful between bites of pot rice, and the seasoned squid and mountain peppers went well with the rice too. Personally, the kkakdugi had a refreshing taste that paired nicely with the pot rice.

Soy sauce and furikake were also on the table, so you could add them to the pot rice depending on your taste.

  • Summer special samgye pot rice: ₩17,000

Sorori's signature galbi (short rib) pot rice

Opened lid of galbi pot rice with pumpkin and jujube toppings

What I ordered was Sorori's signature galbi pot rice! Opening the lid, there was a generous amount of galbi (short rib) on top along with sweet pumpkin, kkwarigochu (shishito-like peppers), and jujube. The braised galbi sauce wasn't too strong, and it was seasoned just right.

It wasn't too bland or too salty — just the right balance to eat with rice, and above all, the meat was so tender that I kept reaching for more!

With pot rice, you just mix everything together well, and mixing the galbi with the rice let the sauce soak naturally into the rice, which was delicious.

You can add the butter that comes with it for extra richness, or wrap it with gim and furikake for another way to enjoy it. Even though we ordered just one dish, there were so many ways to eat it that it never got boring till the end.

Summer special samgye (ginseng chicken) pot rice

Summer special samgye pot rice topped with chicken leg and seafood

My companion ordered the summer special samgye pot rice. It's described as a nourishing pot rice for summer, and it was packed with a variety of ingredients — chicken leg, abalone, scallop, shrimp, octopus, jujube, and sweet pumpkin. At a glance, the ingredients looked really substantial, truly living up to the name of a proper nourishing meal!

The chicken leg in particular was bigger than expected, and it was quite filling after eating. The rice itself seemed to have a light seasoning too, giving an overall savory, umami-rich style. That said, if you usually prefer strongly seasoned food, this might taste a bit mild. But for me, it was the natural flavor of the ingredients that made it so delicious. You can add the mustard and salt served alongside to your taste, and with abalone, shrimp, octopus, and more seafood mixed in, you could enjoy a variety of flavors from one pot.

Final verdict on Sorori, a Seongan-gil pot rice restaurant in Cheongju

Overall, Sorori Cheongju Main Branch felt like a great fit for when you want a clean, filling meal rather than something heavily seasoned. In particular, I really enjoyed the galbi pot rice, with its tender meat and mildly sweet sauce pairing well with the rice, and the samgye pot rice was satisfying as a hearty nourishing meal with chicken leg and a variety of seafood. If you're on a date in Seongan-gil and craving a clean Korean meal, or looking for a pot rice dish that's a bit different from usual, this is a place worth visiting!

The menu also offers a wide variety beyond galbi pot rice — abalone butter pot rice, eel pot rice, beef tripe pot rice, pollack roe butter pot rice, and more — so I'd love to try other pot rice dishes next time. If you're looking for a filling meal while dating in Seongan-gil, I recommend Sorori Cheongju Main Branch for a clean pot rice dish :)
