Korean bar in Seocho, Seoul for a two-person feast: Sadang Heonsang

In short

Sadang Heonsang is a Korean dining bar near Sadang Station in Seocho, Seoul. We had the ₩66,000 two-person Heonsang set with chestnut makgeolli, seasonal sashimi, bossam, rice, kimchi braise, soup, and scallion pancake. Verdict: a generous, beautifully put-together meal for lunch or a wedding-invitation gathering.

Today I went to a restaurant near Sadang Station called Sadang Heonsang (사당헌상). It made me think, why are there so many people in this world who are so good at cooking~? ^..

I only included four of the six dishes,,

Phew, seriously insanely delicious •• It felt like such a neat, generous, proper meal!

The meaning behind the name Sadang Heonsang

I wondered what the name Sadang Heonsang meant, so I looked at the introduction, and apparently it means this ••

Sadang is a name that originated from a shrine housing the memorial tablet of Bangbeon Daegun in the early Joseon period. The present-day place name Sadang-dong began in that space, where people’s sincerity, memories, and respect came together. Heonsang means presenting food prepared with care, while heonjan means offering a cup of alcohol. Sadang Heonsang brings together the meanings of these two words, serving guests a table of food and a drink with sincerity and respect.

Sadang Heonsang interior with traditional charm

The interior too, how should I put it,, was full of traditional beauty?? Even though I’m a lightweight, it had that kind of feel where a glass of makgeolli would be delicious~~~

Seasonal sashimi + kimchi braise (or braised pork ribs) + bossam + scallion pancake + vegetable pot rice + today’s soup

Isn’t that such a packed set,, 🥺 Now, let’s look at the food photos.

Seasonal sashimi with barley doenjang and hijiki

The seasonal sashimi came out first! The second I ate it, I went, wow,, this is delicious;; Maybe it had been aged well—it was super fresh and ridiculously good 🥺 The barley doenjang (fermented soybean paste) and hijiki seaweed served alongside it were such a great combination too ••

Light bossam and its sides

The second dish was bossam (boiled pork slices)~~

Sadang Heonsang bossam

Mr. 10 said the bossam was light and so tasty, and that the fatty bits were cooked just right! ^.. Hahahaha

The ssamjang, scallion kimchi, and pickled greens that came with it were all soooo good too,, It was even better wrapped up as ssam 🤤

Vegetable pot rice with dried radish greens and mushrooms

The third dish was vegetable pot rice. It had dried radish greens, mushrooms, and ginkgo nuts in it. Nutty, light, and yes, very delicious ^^

Eating it with the sauce from the bossam on top. Yum yum, good ^^ Guys, this place is a sauce gem ;;

Tender kimchi braise and today’s soup

The fourth dish was kimchi braise. Ahh~~ my favorite. The meat was so tender I should almost say it was falling apart. Both the kimchi and the meat were insanely delicious ;;

Sadang Heonsang kimchi braise

The fifth was today’s soup,, a freshwater shrimp soft tofu soup (?? I just named it myself lol). Personally, I don’t love a strong shrimp aroma, so I didn’t eat much, but the flavor itself was good, and Mr. 10 really enjoyed it~~

A scallion pancake that wasn’t greasy

The sixth and final dish was the scallion pancake!! By then I was already full, and when I first saw this thick-looking scallion pancake, I thought, oh,, won’t this be too greasy? But.

Sadang Heonsang scallion pancake

Not greasy. At. All.;; How should I describe it—it felt less like a scallion pancake and more like thin fried scallions?! It was perfect with one pickled Cheongyang chili on top and a dip in soy sauce 🥺🥺

Anyway, it was suchhh a delicious meal,, Sadang Heonsang seemed like it would be great both for a Sadang lunch and for a wedding-invitation gathering in Sadang!
