Soso Byeolchae hanok stay near Hwangridan-gil in Gyeongju

On this Gyeongju trip, we spent a night at Soso Byeolchae (소소별채), near Hwangridan-gil. It was such a pretty stay with a hanok atmosphere, so I wanted to introduce it as a place to stay on a Gyeongju trip.

Soso Byeolchae exterior and parking

After parking, it was easy to find because it was right there among the houses. Soso Byeolchae has two rooms, so the entrance is split between the two sides. The exterior was truly full of the elegant charm of a hanok.

Inside the S101 duplex room

We stayed in room S101, which is a duplex room. Above all, I had heard the window view was so beautiful and was curious about it; the moment we walked in, it was the first thing I saw, and I gasped. 🫢

Room space with a sink and kitchen

There were plenty of slippers, and right in front was a vanity with a sink for simple handwashing and brushing teeth. Further inside was the kitchen—doesn't it feel so atmospheric? I truly loved every single interior detail.

There were four people in our family, so they prepared an extra topper for us too. Sometimes, accommodations have such thin toppers that my back hurts and I am uncomfortable even when sleeping on one, but the topper at Soso Byeolchae was so plush that the kids slept well too.

Robes and a vacuum cleaner are also provided.

Atmospheric artwork decoration in the room

There were lovely art pieces placed throughout, and our kids found this place so fascinating and loved it.

How to use the indoor and outdoor jacuzzis

Indoor and outdoor jacuzzi area at Soso Byeolchae

Soso Byeolchae has both indoor and outdoor jacuzzis. The outdoor one was just the right size for the kids to play in, and the indoor one was roomy enough for three people. There was a separate table too, which made it even more convenient.

  • Available from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Children must always use it with a guardian.
  • Never remove the floor drain stopper.

Floats for the children were prepared too, including leg-ring floats that are great for little ones. And first of all, the view was so beautiful that I was completely happy—you absolutely have to take a million photos.

There was an ice water purifier and a refrigerator that chilled and froze well, plus so many glasses in different shapes. The kitchen itself was also so neat and clean.

Everything was perfectly prepared: a microwave, coffee machine, mini oven, tableware, children's tableware, dishes, and more. How could all the dishes and tableware be so pretty too?

Welcome drinks and gifts

They prepared various teas, coffee, welcome drinks, bread, and Gyeongju cherry wine according to the number of guests.

Salt bread and Gyeongju cherry wine gift

They gave us salt bread and Gyeongju cherry wine as gifts. But seriously, the bread was soooo delicious. Even after eating it, I wanted to buy more. The cherry wine, which you can only find in Gyeongju, was excellent too.

Separate bathroom and amenities

At Soso Byeolchae, the toilet and shower room were separate. That made it so convenient to use; normally, the floor is wet after every shower and that can be uncomfortable, but it was not like that here, so it was comfortable for both my child and me.

Separate bathroom and amenities area

There were plenty of towels and amenities—foam cleanser, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and everything else in such generous supply that we did not even use the things we brought. Most of all, I was surprised that the hair dryer was a Dyson. A Dyson at a pension stay! That is probably why doing my hair was so nice too.

Upstairs bedroom and thoughtful touches for children

Upstairs, there is a spacious king-size bed. The bedding had no smell and was really clean, and there was a separate air conditioner installed too.

Safety is what I value most when I am with the kids, and one detail that showed the owner's thoughtfulness was the head-bump protectors installed like this. So no one bumped their head!

There is also a drying rack, so if you need it, take it out from the storage space beneath the towels!

There was a StandbyMe screen, so we played atmospheric music and the kids watched it sometimes too. The amazing part was that Netflix was available, so I watched it after getting the kids to sleep. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We had coffee with the generously supplied coffee capsules, and as someone who only drinks iced drinks, I was beyond satisfied with the ice water purifier.

Atmosphere of the stay lit up after sunset

It was also so atmospheric and beautiful after the sun went down. The lighting was cozy yet bright, which made it even better!

Window photo spot and overall stay review

Honestly, every space was so pretty in photos that you could call the entire stay a photo spot, but the window area is an absolute must. Our kids woke up in the morning saying they wanted to look outside, and even after getting ready, they watched together for quite a while. When I took their photos, they were so beautiful even without a filter.

For anyone traveling to Gyeongju, I really want to recommend Soso Byeolchae. It is about a 5-minute walk from Hwangridan-gil, so it was very convenient to leave the car parked, explore Hwangridan-gil, and come back to the stay. The property itself was clean and well maintained, and with indoor and outdoor jacuzzis, it was great for staying with children. The kids had a fun time playing in the jacuzzis while we relaxed at the stay and recovered from the fatigue of our Gyeongju trip.

Please note, though, that you cannot cook separately at the stay, so you will need to use takeout or delivery.

If you are looking for a Gyeongju hanok stay close to Hwangridan-gil where you can stay comfortably with children, I would recommend Soso Byeolchae, which has both atmosphere and convenience. 👍🏻
