Gyeongju café for pumpkin sikhye bingsu: Bibibidang

After a satisfying meal, we looked for somewhere quiet to recharge away from the crowds. On this September Gyeongju itinerary, we visited a hidden café that truly stood out, where we could enjoy a perfect view and dessert in an artistic space.

We stopped by to rest at a café after flower-viewing at one of the places to visit in Gyeongju in September.

A quiet, view-filled spot hidden inside Wooyang Art Museum

Bibibidang (비비비당) is located inside the Wooyang Art Museum building, beyond the Hilton Hotel in the Bomun Tourist Complex.

Finding the entrance was a little confusing at first, but just walk all the way into the museum’s first-floor gift shop and the café appears right there.

It felt like we were searching for a secret space hidden in the museum, so I was excited before we even arrived. Once inside, soft indirect lighting without any glare and moon-jar objects come together to create such a cozy atmosphere.

The long sofas and chairs are generally low, making the space feel much more open and wonderfully artistic. In particular, the lush, well-kept landscaping at the Hilton Hotel stretches out refreshingly beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows; even on an overcast day, the natural light coming in was so lovely.

Tea and dasik that older guests will love, plus lovely goods

Once we sat down and looked around, there were far more guests from our parents’ generation and family groups than couples our age. Hearing warm local dialects here and there, it seemed like a real local hot spot that residents often visit for get-togethers. Traditional tea, not just coffee, is a mainstay here, so it is a wonderful place for older guests sensitive to caffeine to relax and enjoy the window view.

One side of the café had artisan-made white porcelain, dessert forks, and drip coffee and tea bags for sale. The packaging was so elegant that, if you try a tea and it suits your taste, it looked perfect to buy as a gift for parents or friends.

Pumpkin sikhye bingsu and coffee

Brewing the tea and arranging the bingsu with the refreshments takes a little time, but the carefully prepared dishes make you forget the wait. We ordered a refreshing iced Americano and a single-serving pumpkin sikhye bingsu, and they passed from the visuals alone.

The Americano came thoughtfully paired with dark chocolate, while the pumpkin sikhye bingsu came with chewy jujube jeonggwa (candied jujube) as its dasik.

The iced Americano in particular had a savory, deep flavor, just as its thick layer of crema suggested. My husband raved that it was proper coffee.

The pumpkin sikhye bingsu I chose was incredibly generous—despite being a single-serving menu item, it was enough for the two of us. Mixing the finely shaved soft ice with sweet pumpkin brought out a subtle sweetness that lingered beautifully on the tongue.

It was a flavor I had never tried before, with even the bites of pumpkin having the perfect texture, so we scraped the bowl clean despite arriving with full stomachs from our meal.

Even the restroom was wonderfully comfortable

It was a time filled with delicious dessert and an excellent view, but one of the points that personally impressed me most was actually the restroom.

Perhaps because it is inside a museum, it was impeccably equipped with a bidet and even a Dyson hand dryer, making us feel looked after throughout our visit. Little details like these seem to give travel satisfaction such a boost. If you are looking for a comfortable café in the Bomun Tourist Complex with reliably high quality, make sure to visit at least once!
