Mixed katsu platter with tako-yaki for solo dining: Hongdae Gureume

In short

Hongdae Gureume Incheon Nonhyeon Branch is a Japanese tonkatsu restaurant on the 2nd floor of the iFLEX Building in Nonhyeon-dong, Namdong, Incheon. Dining solo, the writer ordered a mixed katsu platter (shrimp katsu, pork loin katsu, cheese katsu) with a side of tako-yaki, and the flame-charred cheese katsu and springy shrimp katsu stood out most. Verdict: the mixed katsu platter is a great choice for anyone who can't decide on just one menu item.

When you can't pick just one, go for the mixed katsu

I'm here to share my visit to Hongdae Gureume, a great restaurant in Incheon Nonhyeon — and specifically the mixed katsu platter that let me try a bit of everything, which is exactly why I was so satisfied!

Today I want to write about a delicious tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) meal I had in Incheon Nonhyeon! 🐷✨ It's Hongdae Gureume Incheon Nonhyeon Branch. If you love tonkatsu, you know that moment of agonizing over whether to get just one dish, pork loin katsu or cheese katsu, right? 😂 For anyone in that dilemma, the mixed katsu platter was exactly the answer!

The mixed katsu platter I ordered this time came with shrimp katsu, pork loin katsu, and cheese katsu all together, plus tako-yaki (fried octopus balls) on the side — so it ended up being a really hearty meal. 🥢🤍

Prices these days are just insane,, but Hongdae Gureume, my recommended spot in Incheon Nonhyeon, is very reasonably priced, so I was extremely satisfied — and you can also pay with the Ieum card!

It's an order-at-the-table system. I visited alone that day!

What's on the mixed katsu plate

And here's the mixed katsu platter that arrived. Wow, this was genuinely so good — it's such a shame the photos don't do it justice ㅠㅠ!!

And this spicy sauce plus the tonkatsu sauce were a nice kick, too

Personally, I think the biggest advantage of the mixed katsu platter is being able to try several kinds at once. If you just order pork loin katsu alone, you might enjoy it but still find yourself curious about the other kinds of katsu — the mixed platter takes care of that regret! 😆

Having a variety of katsu neatly arranged on one plate made it look plentiful just to look at. Each was crispy on the outside, with its own distinct texture and charm, making the eating experience really fun.

It's great to order a variety of dishes and share when dining with others, but this way you can enjoy multiple flavors within a single order — perfect for anyone who wants to experience variety even when dining solo. 👍🏻

The tonkatsu classic: pork loin katsu 🥩

Pork loin katsu is a must in the mixed platter! When you think of tonkatsu, this is probably the first thing that comes to mind. The combination of crispy breading and juicy meat never gets old. 🤍 It's delicious dipped in sauce too, and you can enjoy it in different ways depending on your taste.

With a dish like the mixed katsu platter that brings several types together, it's fun to compare the flavors as you eat. Shrimp katsu has a springy, clean texture, while pork loin katsu is savory and hearty — each had its own distinct charm.

Tako-yaki as a side dish 🐙

The katsu alone would've been plenty delicious, but this time I also ordered tako-yaki! 🐙✨ When enjoying Japanese food, adding tako-yaki on the side makes the meal feel even more varied.

The tako-yaki was warm and soft on the outside, topped with sauce and toppings — a great side to pair with the tonkatsu. If the mixed katsu was the hearty main, the tako-yaki added a different flavor in between bites, making the whole meal even more satisfying. The tonkatsu and tako-yaki combo worked better than I expected. 😋

Rich and savory cheese katsu 🧀

And then there's my favorite, the cheese katsu! 🧀🤍 Isn't a katsu with cheese inside just automatically a happy dish? Haha. Under the crispy breading was rich, savory cheese, and every bite delivered layers of flavor.

It has a soft, savory charm quite different from the pork loin katsu, and personally, it was the most satisfying item in the mixed platter. Eating several types of katsu together kept things interesting from start to finish!

Even looking back at this cheese katsu now, my mouth is watering ㅠ_ㅠ It was even lightly charred, so you could taste a bit of that smoky flame flavor too

Ah, that pork loin was so clean and juicy,,

And the shrimp was insanely springy

It was so good! The kind of taste that makes you want to go to Japan
