Wedding-invite meal with beef intestine pot rice, Cheongju: Sorori

In short

Sorori Sotbap Gagyeong Direct Branch is a Korean pot rice restaurant near Gagyeong-dong iPark in Cheongju, Chungbuk. Visited for a fifth wedding-invitation meal, the writer ordered buckwheat gimbap, rib pot rice, and beef intestine pot rice, plus seaweed soup and gim. Big parking lot and a calm mood made it a good spot for a long, unhurried meal.

For my fifth wedding-invitation meal, I picked a place in Gagyeong-dong where you can get pot rice.

It had a clean, comfortable vibe that was good for handing over the wedding invitation and chatting over food :) If you're looking for somewhere to eat near Gagyeong-dong iPark, this one's worth knowing about.

The parking system at the Gagyeong-dong branch was really well set up. There's a huge lot behind the restaurant, so even in Gagyeong-dong — notorious for parking headaches — you don't need to worry.

A good atmosphere for a wedding-invitation meal

The interior was clean and comfortable. Overall it had a tidy vibe that made it easy to relax and eat. A wedding-invitation meal usually means talking for a long time over the food, so I prefer a calm place like this over somewhere loud and busy.

There are tables for two, four, and six! It looked like solo dining would work fine too.

Kiosk ordering and the menu lineup

Sorori Sotbap Gagyeong Direct Branch, a spot near Gagyeong-dong iPark, has a kiosk installed at every table. Looking at the menu, there were more options than I expected.

There's such a variety of pot rice dishes that if you come with a group, ordering different ones and sharing seems like a great idea. The interior looked clean and nice while I was ordering too.

Neatly decorated restaurant interior

This Gagyeong-dong branch always seems to have a steady stream of orders. Even so, they set the table up super fast bb.

After some deliberation, we ordered buckwheat gimbap (seaweed rice roll), rib pot rice, and beef intestine pot rice.

Ordered buckwheat gimbap and pot rice spread

Buckwheat gimbap, a reason to remember this as a Cheongju gimbap spot

The buckwheat gimbap was better than I expected. I originally thought of it as a side since we came for pot rice, but once I tried it, I kept reaching for more.

It had a clean, light flavor that wasn't too heavy, good to eat one piece at a time between bites of pot rice. If you're looking for something a bit different from the usual gimbap, I'd recommend this. So I'm filing this place away as a Cheongju gimbap restaurant too :)

The rib pot rice spread

The rib pot rice was properly filling. The moment I opened the lid, a generous pile of rib meat caught my eye. It came out as a full table spread.

Eating the warm pot rice together with the ribs, the salty-savory flavor paired really well. Pot rice really is about topping freshly cooked rice with a piece of meat at a time 🤍 If you want a hearty, filling meal, the rib pot rice was solid.

If you like spicy, go for the beef intestine pot rice

For the second pot rice, we ordered beef intestine pot rice. It had that distinctive savory, rich flavor of beef intestine, a totally different feel from the rib pot rice.

I'm normally into spicy dishes like this, so personally I ate it happily. If I come back next time, I think I'd order the beef intestine pot rice again :)

The full spread: seaweed soup and gim too

And the rich flavor of the seaweed soup, which you really notice more in a full table spread, bb

The seafood in the seaweed soup made it genuinely rich too.

I also tried the gim (dried seaweed) that came with the pot rice, and it was so, so good.

Finish eating, register your parking, and that's it!

Wrapping up the fifth wedding-invitation meal

Fifth wedding-invitation meal, successful 🤍 This time I went looking for a place in Gagyeong-dong to eat pot rice, and I liked that I got to try three different menus — buckwheat gimbap, rib pot rice, and beef intestine pot rice.

On days when I hand over a wedding invitation, the meal naturally turns into talk about the wedding and all the catching up we hadn't done, so I'd rather go somewhere comfortable to talk over food than somewhere too fancy — and this meal was satisfying too.

If you're after a hearty bowl of pot rice in Gagyeong-dong, hunting for a good restaurant near Gagyeong-dong iPark, or looking for a slightly different kind of gimbap in Cheongju, I'd recommend trying the buckwheat gimbap alongside the pot rice.

As I go through wedding prep and hand out invitations one by one, the places where I ate the meals are turning into memories too. This is already my fifth wedding-invitation meal record — I'll keep documenting the rest slowly 🤍
